Job Title: Business Analyst I
Location: Frederick County, MD
Duration: 12+ Months with high possibilities of extension
Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Analyst I to support business consulting, operational improvement, project management, and technology initiatives for public sector clients. The Analyst I will assist with business process analysis, requirements gathering, workflow documentation, data analysis, report development, and project coordination while working under the guidance of senior consultants and project managers.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills with the ability to translate business needs into actionable recommendations.
Key Responsibilities:
Gather, document, and validate business and functional requirements through interviews, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
Analyze existing business processes, workflows, and operational procedures to identify improvement opportunities.
Develop process maps, workflow diagrams, business requirements documents (BRDs), and functional specifications.
Assist with business process reengineering and continuous improvement initiatives.
Collect, analyze, and interpret business, operational, and workforce data to support decision-making.
Prepare reports, dashboards, presentations, and documentation for project stakeholders.
Support strategic planning, organizational assessments, and operational reviews.
Assist Project Managers with project planning, status tracking, meeting coordination, and documentation.
Participate in stakeholder meetings and document meeting minutes, action items, and decisions.
Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by developing test scenarios, documenting results, and tracking defects.
Assist in developing training materials, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and user guides.
Coordinate with business users and technical teams to ensure project requirements are accurately understood.
Maintain project artifacts, documentation repositories, and version control.
Assist with change management activities and communication plans.
Support technology implementation and business transformation initiatives.
Perform research, benchmarking, and best practice analysis as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, Public Administration, Economics, Management, or a related field.
Minimum 3 years of experience in business analysis, operations analysis, project coordination, or consulting.
Experience gathering business requirements and documenting business processes.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting public sector or government consulting projects.
Experience with business process mapping and workflow analysis.
Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Experience supporting ERP or enterprise application implementations.
Exposure to data visualization and reporting tools.
Knowledge of project management methodologies.
Experience with organizational assessments or workforce analysis.
Preferred Certifications:
One or more of the following:
Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA)
Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) – Preferred
PMI Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA)
CAPM
