Description

The Information Technology department is hiring a Business Analyst.

Under general direction of the Information Technology Director, the Business Analyst will serve as the vital link between CBJ's information technology and business objectives by supporting and ensuring the successful completion of analytical, building, testing and deployment tasks of all software and systems product's features. They will support departments document and improve the work process to find efficient and sustainable business models.

The Information Technology (IT) Department is a service and support department of the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ). WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

This position typically works an eight (8) hour day (Monday through Friday). The shift beginning and finish times will be determined on start date but will be between 7:30am - 8:30am and your finish time will match accordingly between 4:00pm and 5:00pm. Our office is located at 11305 Glacier Highway, near Statter Harbor.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with departments throughout the organization to identify, analyze, and document business needs, objectives, workflows, business processes, user requirements, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Develops and maintains business requirements, functional specifications, configuration documentation, and workflow processes to ensure business systems support organizational goals, policies, and operational needs.
  • Partners with vendors, Information Technology staff, and departmental stakeholders during system implementations, upgrades, and enhancements to ensure business requirements are clearly communicated, understood, and successfully implemented.
  • Evaluates existing business processes and system configurations, recommends improvements, and develops roadmaps that support organizational growth, operational efficiency, and future business needs.
  • Monitors industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Defines reporting, monitoring, and alerting requirements that support reliable system performance and informed decision-making.
  • Tests system changes, upgrades, and new functionality to verify performance, validate business requirements, and identify issues before implementation.
  • Provides user-level troubleshooting, documents technical issues, and serves as the liaison between business users and Information Technology to facilitate timely issue resolution.
  • Analyzes recurring technical issues and user feedback and recommends system and process improvements that enhance efficiency and user experience.
  • Coordinates and facilitates user acceptance testing, end-user training, and communication to support successful implementation and adoption of system changes.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders, programmers, managers, and vendors to monitor system performance, maintain quality standards, and improve system reliability.
  • Designs, documents, implements, and maintains standardized business processes that incorporate organizational policies, compliance requirements, and operational best practices.
  • Maintains a centralized repository of business process documentation and regularly reviews and updates documentation to reflect organizational and system changes.
  • Works with stakeholders to develop, refine, and promote consistent business processes across departments.
  • Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with vendors, Information Technology staff, department leaders, and other stakeholders to support effective business system integrations.
  • Coordinates or leads system-related projects and initiatives by aligning project objectives, facilitating communication, and supporting successful implementation.
  • Fosters collaboration among business units, technical teams, vendors, and stakeholders to optimize business systems and ensure effective communication and ongoing operational success.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

Six (6) years of any combination of post-secondary education and progressively responsible experience performing business and systems analysis, research, reporting, process improvement, and/or business/financial/technical operations.

Post-secondary Credit:

  • Courses will be credited based on 3 semester/4 quarter hours= 1 month of experience.

Applicants must document how relevant education and experience meets the above minimum qualification.

  • Transcripts that indicate the credit hours earned for the specific course work will need to be included with the CBJ application.
