Business and Partnership Manager

The Institute for Sustainability Engagement (ISE) is a leading interdisciplinary applied research institute within ECS, uniting faculty and staff across other universities in the Central New York Region, throughout New York State and across the nation. This position provides centralized relationship management with multiple ISE funders as well as stakeholder management for the Institute. This position will work across programs focused on water sector workforce development, leadership training, finance, and policy. This role is intended for a seasoned project manager with both proven success in project management and industry knowledge. The successful candidate will require minimal onboarding and demonstrate an ability to move existing projects closer to completion while integrating people, processes, strategic priorities, and position them for future funding. The candidate will be responsible for engaging staff and faculty across campus in ISE programs to enhance the sustainability engagement work of the university. The position will lead a team of four staff members, including a full-time Associate, part-time employees and student interns from across campus. This is a role reporting to the institute leadership, with the responsibility of growing the interdisciplinary applied research institute.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline (public administration, partnership management, environmental/earth science, communications, civil/environmental/chemical engineering, environmental management/studies, or related field)
• Minimum of six years of progressively responsible, operations, program management experience and full-time experience working in water sector programming.
• At least two years of management and supervisory experience
• Proven record of project management and/or project management certification (PMP)

Skills and Knowledge

• Ability to launch projects with limited oversight
• Technical expertise water career certifications, education requirements, workforce trends, and infrastructure trends.
• Water and wastewater utility, regulatory and/or consulting experience
• Project management certification or experience
• Experience project agile project management tools and software programs

Responsibilities

• Manage funding portfolio including timelines, deliverables, and related program needs.
• Create and oversee project management systems, dependencies, and risk registers.
• Oversee a team of staff, including a FT Associate, to lead tasks and support project needs
• Collaborate with and convene internal teams across communications, research, program development
• Identify and lead outreach to synergistic departments throughout the University
• Leverage partnerships across campus and with other university partners.
• Translate and integrate institute-wide and college-wide strategic priorities into executable plans in alignment with currently funded projects and proposed projects
• Work with the Assistant Director and Director to position existing program for future investment
• Serve as workforce development subject matter expert, initially in water industry topics, and expanding to engineering and technology approaches.
• Conceptualize innovative and effective new programs and integrate them by writing grant proposal applications for future funding opportunities
• Lead industry outreach
• Seek, lead, and convene interdisciplinary proposal teams across ECS and external partners.
• Other duties as needed and assigned.
