The Business Banking Officer (BBO) serves as a dedicated partner to branch teams and business members, managing moderate-complexity lending, treasury management, and account servicing needs that fall between retail branch capabilities and the scope of a Business Relationship Manager (BRM). Working as the connective tissue between the branch network and senior Business/SBA and C&I lenders, the BBO handles loans and lines of credit up to $500,000, supports Treasury Management product adoption, and executes on new business member acquisition — ensuring every business referral is met with responsive, consultative service.

This role is a growth accelerator for Desert Financial's business banking franchise. By capturing and converting branch-generated referrals, deepening existing relationships through treasury solutions, and proactively sourcing new business members, the BBO drives non-interest income, expands the business portfolio, and frees senior lenders to focus on larger, more complex transactions. The BBO operates with strong credit judgment, regulatory awareness, and a relentless focus on member experience, serving as a trusted advisor to branch leaders, a mentor on business banking fundamentals, and a reliable hand-off point for opportunities that warrant escalation to senior lending staff.

What you will do here:

Business Lending & Loan Origination

Manage business loan and line of credit requests up to $500,000, from initial discovery through submission into the Loan Origination System (LOS) and closing support.

Collect and review borrower documentation, including business and personal financial statements, tax returns, entity documents, and collateral information.

Partner with Credit Analysts and Underwriters to build credit packages, structure deals appropriately, and advance decisions through committee as required.

Support closing preparation in coordination with loan operations, documentation teams, and external parties (title, escrow, attorneys, accountants).

Ensure all lending activity complies with DFCU credit policy, NCUA regulations, ECOA, Regulation B, and other applicable lending regulations.

Treasury Management Support

Consult with business members on Treasury Management solutions including ACH origination, remote deposit capture, positive pay, wires, merchant services, and commercial online banking.

Assist with product selection, application completion, implementation handoffs, and post-onboarding servicing in partnership with Treasury Management specialists.

Identify cross-sell opportunities during lending, account opening, and relationship review conversations to deepen member wallet share and grow non-interest income.

Coordinate with Treasury Management Sales Officers and Associates on complex implementations or higher-tier solution sets.

New Business Development & Prospecting

Proactively source new business members through networking, community involvement, center-of-influence (COI) relationships, and local market outreach.

Partner with branch leadership to identify small business prospects within existing retail membership and convert them into full business banking relationships.

Represent Desert Financial at chamber events, trade associations, and community business functions to build pipeline and strengthen brand presence.

Maintain activity, pipeline, and referral records in Salesforce, DFCU's internal CRM, to support visibility and performance reporting.

Business Account Support & Servicing

Support new business account setups, including entity verification, beneficial ownership collection, and documentation review in accordance with KYC, CIP, and BSA/AML requirements.

Assist with ongoing servicing needs including signer changes, account maintenance, and resolution of operational inquiries escalated from branches.

Ensure account structures align with member needs and DFCU operational standards, partnering with Deposit Operations on non-standard requests.

Branch Partnership, Coaching & Escalation

Serve as the primary liaison between branch teams and senior SBA/C&I lenders, ensuring referrals are routed, qualified, and responded to promptly.

Partner with other support lines of business (e.g. Wealth Management, Wills and Trust, Insurance, Mortgage, CRE, Indirect Lending etc..)

Provide high-level coaching and training to branch personnel on business banking fundamentals, referral identification, and Treasury

Lead or participate in branch morning meetings to share business banking updates, celebrate wins, and reinforce referral behaviors.
