    Job Summary/Scope
    The Business Compliance Coordinator is responsible for administering, coordinating, and monitoring the City's business licensing compliance program. This position serves as the primary liaison between the City and the business community, promoting voluntary compliance through education, communication, and partnership while ensuring adherence to licensing, permitting, and regulatory requirements.
    The Business Compliance Coordinator works collaboratively with business owners, City departments, community organizations, and regulatory agencies to support economic development, maintain accurate business records, and ensure businesses operating within the City are properly licensed and compliant with applicable ordinances.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Monitor license expirations, delinquent accounts, and renewal compliance.
    • Identify businesses operating without required licenses, permits, or registrations.
    • Conduct proactive compliance reviews utilizing utility account information, sales tax reports, occupancy permits, and other available records.
    • Assist businesses in understanding and meeting licensing and regulatory requirements.
    • Provide education and guidance regarding licensing, permitting, registration, and compliance processes.
    • Develop positive working relationships with the local business community.
    • Assist businesses in resolving compliance issues through communication and voluntary corrective action.
    • Promote a business-friendly approach while maintaining regulatory standards.
    • Conduct field visits to verify business operations and licensing compliance.
    • Confirm required licenses and permits are properly displayed when applicable.
    • Investigate potential unlicensed business activity and compliance concerns.
    • Meet with business owners and operators to discuss licensing requirements and compliance solutions.
    • Document field observations, findings, and corrective actions.
    • Work with permitting staff to identify new business activity, ownership changes, and occupancy changes.
    • Coordinate with utility billing personnel to identify businesses potentially operating without required licensing.
    • Facilitate communication between departments regarding business compliance matters.
    • Assist in developing and improving internal compliance processes and procedures.
    • Assist with identifying and addressing delinquent accounts and unpaid fees.
    • Prepare reports, statistics, and recommendations related to business licensing and compliance activities.
    • Track performance measures and compliance metrics.
    • Coordinate with the Chamber of Commerce, economic development organizations, and community partners regarding new and expanding businesses.
    • Foster collaborative relationships that support business growth while maintaining compliance with City requirements.

     Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Knowledge of municipal licensing, permitting, and regulatory processes.
    • Knowledge of customer service principles and conflict resolution techniques.
    • Ability to interpret and apply ordinances, policies, regulations, and procedures.
    • Ability to analyze records, identify discrepancies, and conduct compliance reviews.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with business owners, staff, elected officials, and the public
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
    • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities.
    • Proficiency in computer software, databases, and record management systems.
    • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Valid driver’s license required.
    Working Environment/Physical Requirements
    Work is conducted in an office environment. Work involves community travel, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, and bending. Lifting plans set daily with weights of up to 30 lbs. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested and approved by the appropriate supervisor.

    Education
    High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field desirable; any combination of formal education and work experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
