    Job Description

The Nuclear Company is the fastest growing AI tech-enabled startup in the nuclear and energy space, pioneering a fleet-scale approach to building the next generation of nuclear reactors. Through our design-once, build-many model, we're accelerating the deployment of safe, reliable, and affordable nuclear energy.

We operate with an AI-first mindset. Every employee is expected to leverage AI, technology, and the Nuclear Operating System (NOS) as integral components of their role to improve the quality, speed, and impact of their work. We expect every team member to continuously identify opportunities to automate workflows, enhance decision-making, improve processes, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of NOS as a strategic operating capability that enables The Nuclear Company to scale with excellence.

We hire people who are driven by purpose, thrive in ambiguity, and are energized by building what has never been built before. Our team combines intellectual curiosity with high agency, embraces candid feedback and continuous learning, and holds themselves and others to exceptional standards. Our values—Transparency, Responsibility, Unity, Scrappy, and Tenacity—guide how we hire, collaborate, and make decisions every day. They are not words on a wall; they are the standard by which we operate. TRUST is the foundation of our safety culture, fostering intellectual honesty, accountability, and open communication, while our values challenge every team member to execute with urgency, humility, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to our mission.

TNC Services, the services division of The Nuclear Company, brings together field execution, specialized workforce solutions, and Professional Services expertise to support the nuclear industry across the full asset lifecycle. While The Nuclear Company advances the fleet-scale deployment of new nuclear power, TNC Services supports the industry today through outage and maintenance execution delivered by TNC Field Services and TNC FieldWorks, alongside Professional Services spanning project delivery, engineering, licensing and regulatory, security, cybersecurity and compliance, and workforce development. Together, our teams combine proven nuclear expertise, technology, and an AI-enabled approach to help utilities operate safely and reliably today while building the capabilities needed for tomorrow’s nuclear fleet.

    About the role

The Business Development Manager, Services drives new-business identification and early-stage pursuit development across TNC's Services portfolio: Security, Training & Workforce Development, Engineering, Licensing & Regulatory, Program Management, and Field & Union Services. This is the engine room of TNC's pursuit pipeline – you will be originating, qualifying, and advancing leads from initial market signal through a defined qualification standard to a qualified opportunity ready to advance.

This is an individual-contributor role. You will personally own accounts and customer relationships, carry your own qualified-opportunity target, and work horizontally across every service line rather than a single vertical. Coverage is horizontal by design, and the role carries coverage expectations across the portfolio rather than volume alone; quarterly focus across service lines is set with the Director of Sales based on capacity and market signal.

Success is measured on qualified opportunities accepted into the pipeline, pipeline value created, and data integrity at the qualification gate. Business line owners own capture and close; you own everything upstream of the gate, and your qualification number is independently approved rather than self-reported.

Please note: This role requires regular office presence in either Washington, D.C., or Columbia, South Carolina, along with the ability to travel according to business needs. The position may be advertised in additional nearby markets for visibility; however, candidates must be commutable to or willing to relocate to one of the two designated office locations.

    Responsibilities

    Pipeline Generation & Qualification

    • Identify and qualify new business across the entire TNC Services portfolio, carrying quarterly targets for leads generated and qualified opportunities handed to business line owners
    • Own leads from creation through disposition, meeting the full qualification standard before advancement into the opportunity pipeline
    • Identify cross-selling opportunities into existing accounts, reengage dormant accounts on a targeted cadence, and conduct market and account research to identify white space across assigned accounts

    CRM Discipline & Forecasting

    • Own accurate, current data on all assigned accounts, contacts, and leads with stages recorded when there are updates, maintaining accurate next steps, and correct tagging at creation
    • Meet aging and disposition standards to ensure no leads sit in active stages without contact and without documented disposition
    • Contribute to weekly pipeline reviews by providing next steps for each owned lead, as well as proactively surfacing stalled & at-risk leads
    • Surface CRM friction points and usability gaps as a daily user of the platform, contributing practical feedback on fields, stages, and reporting to Business Ops

    Relationship & Network Development

    • Build and sustain relationships with technical and economic buyers across operating utilities, DOE sites, OEMs, EPCs, and new-build developers
    • Map the buying group on each account with role-tagged contacts, so decision-maker coverage is documented before handoff
    • Represent TNC at industry events annually, with a pre-event target list and proper documentation of leads generated during the event within the CRM

    Cross-Functional Coordination

    • Route qualified opportunities to the correct business line owner, with the context and documentation required to support accurate forecasting from day one of their ownership
    • Ensure Line of Business and Service Type are tagged correctly at creation, since routing and downstream forecasting both depend on it
    • Partner with business line owners across the TNC Services portfolio to maintain current knowledge of differentiators, value propositions, and delivery capacity, enabling credible customer conversations

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physical sciences, business, public policy, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
    • 5+ years in business development, commercial, capture, or client-facing technical delivery within a complex regulated industry — energy, utilities, nuclear, infrastructure, defense, aerospace, government contracting, or industrial services. Candidates from technical delivery backgrounds should demonstrate direct customer ownership and clear intent to move into a commercial role.
    • Demonstrated ability to originate opportunities from initial market signal and advance them through a defined qualification standard, with documented handoff to capture or delivery owners.
    • Demonstrated fluency operating in a CRM daily to manage concurrent pursuits, with a working understanding of why pipeline stages, gates, and required fields exist. HubSpot, Salesforce, or comparable; TNC operates a proprietary platform, so transferable discipline matters more than platform experience.
    • Ability to understand and communicate complex technical offerings and navigate regulatory, policy, and government stakeholder environments.
    • Ability to travel domestically approximately 25–40%, with occasional international travel, and to satisfy nuclear site access requirements including background screening and fitness for duty.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication, including developing and delivering presentations to executive stakeholders.

    Preferred Experience

    • Experience in nuclear energy, advanced energy technologies, power generation, or major energy infrastructure.
    • Direct experience in a nuclear technical discipline — licensing and regulatory, engineering, outage or project management, security, cybersecurity, or training — with sustained client-facing exposure.
    • Familiarity with reactor technologies, nuclear industry stakeholders, or the nuclear regulatory landscape.
    • Experience supporting pursuits across multiple service lines or business units within a matrixed organization.
    • Experience contributing to CRM configuration, sales process design, or pipeline reporting.

    Benefits

    • Competitive compensation packages
    • 401k with company match
    • Medical, dental, vision plans
    • Generous vacation policy, plus holidays

    Estimated Starting Salary Range
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $118,000 - $140,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
