Customer Support Data Intelligence team is looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer to help build next-generation metrics and drive business analytics that have measurable impact. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of different businesses and customer profiles - the underlying analytics, and the ability to translate business requirements into analysis, collect and analyze data, and make recommendations back to the business. BIEs also continuously learn new systems, tools, and industry best practices to help design new studies and build new tools that help our team automate and accelerate analytics.

As a BIE, you will develop strategic reports, design UI, and drive projects to support the WWCS team as well as the entire WW Operations team"s decision-making. This role is inherently cross-functional - you will work closely with the finance team, engineering, and leadership across WWCS.

A successful candidate will be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, able to think big and be creative (while still paying careful attention to detail). You should be skilled in database design, be comfortable dealing with large and complex data sets, and have experience building self-service dashboards and using visualization tools, especially Tableau. You should have strong analytical and communication skills.

You will work with a team of analytics professionals who are passionate about using machine learning to build automated systems and solve problems that matter to our customers. Your work will directly impact our customers and operations.

Members of this team will be challenged to innovate using the latest big data techniques. We are looking for people who are motivated by thinking big, moving fast, and exploring business insights. If you love implementing solutions to complex problems while working hard, having fun, and making history, this may be the opportunity for you. Own the design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards on the key drivers of our business.

Key job responsibilities

  • Scope, design, and build database structure and schema, which enables all ABCS team members to self-serve.
  • Create data pipelines using ETL connections/SQL queries to bring new attributes into the ABCS master database.
  • Retrieve and analyze data using a broad set of Amazon"s data technologies and resources, knowing how, when, and which to use.
  • Pull data on an ad-hoc basis using SQL queries.
  • Design, build, and maintain automated reporting, dashboards (especially QuickSight), and analyses to enable our team to self-service data needs, focusing on answering hard and ambiguous problems.
  • Conduct deep dives to identify root causes of pain points and opportunities for improvement.
  • Become a subject matter expert in ABCS data and support all ABCS team members in deep dives.
  • Work closely with CSBI teams to ensure ABCS uses globally aligned standard metrics and definitions.
  • Collaborate with finance and business teams to gather data and metrics requirements.

About the Company

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
