Position Title: Business Intelligence Engineer/Data Analyst

Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract opportunity for a Business Intelligence Engineer / Data Analyst with our client in Redmond, Washington.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models, including authoring and optimizing complex DAX measures and managing data models (relationships, star schema, Import and DirectQuery modes).
  • Develop and tune SQL across Snowflake Unified Data Warehouse (UDW), PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server for analytics, data profiling, validation, and reporting.
  • Build and maintain curated Gold layer data marts and reporting feeds in Snowflake, following a medallion architecture (bronze, silver, gold) to ensure data quality, lineage, and accessibility.
  • Apply Snowflake performance tuning, warehouse sizing, and cost optimization to keep analytics workloads fast and efficient.
  • Support the migration of analytics workloads from operational databases (PostgreSQL and SQL Server) to a modern cloud stack centered on Snowflake, with minimal disruption to downstream reports.
  • Partner with engineering and analytics teams on dimensional data modeling and schema design that support dashboards, reporting, and experimentation.
  • Contribute to ETL and ELT pipelines using tools such as Azure Data Factory (ADF) and Python for data movement, transformation, and automation.
  • Work directly with customers and stakeholders to gather, clarify, and document requirements, and to deliver analytics solutions that address their needs.
  • Translate stakeholder and product requests into clearly defined metrics and data products, validating results with row-count reconciliation before delivery.
  • Implement data quality, monitoring, and governance practices across reporting datasets, including consistent query and modeling standards.
  • Ensure data security, privacy, and compliance, applying PHI and PII masking and access controls in line with relevant regulations (for example, HIPAA).
  • Administer Power BI and Microsoft Fabric workspace assets, including refresh schedules, capacity, deployment, and row-level security.
  • Help define reporting standards and best practices, and document analytics assets for discoverability and reuse.

Job Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or analytics engineering.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Power BI, including authoring DAX measures, data modeling, and report/dashboard development.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake, including SQL development, performance tuning, warehouse sizing, and cost optimization.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and data modeling (Star Schema, Snowflake Schema, 3NF, and/or Data Vault).
  • Proven experience writing analytical SQL across Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL).
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, Kimball methodology, Medallion Architecture, and reporting best practices.
  • Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF), dbt, or similar tools.
  • Strong understanding of OLTP vs. OLAP and how source systems feed analytical models.
  • Proficiency with Python or another scripting language used for automation and data manipulation.
  • Understanding and hands-on experience with data privacy, governance, and compliance frameworks (HIPAA, GDPR, etc.).
  • Strong data profiling, validation, and reconciliation skills with the ability to prove results using exact counts.
  • Skilled in cost-effective cloud resource utilization with strong testing capabilities (unit, integration, end-to-end).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work directly with customers and stakeholders, gather requirements, and translate business needs into technical solutions.
