What You Will Do

Los Alamos National Laboratory invites you to join the Weapons Finance (FIN-WP) group to provide financial operations support, reporting, and analysis for the Associate Laboratory Director for Weapons Production (ALDWP). Reporting to the Deputy Directorate for Weapons (DDW) Business Manager, the ALDWP Business Manager will oversee and coordinate day-to-day financial operations.

In this role, you will provide high-level support for business analysis and strategic objectives for both the Associate Laboratory Director for Weapons Production and the Program Director of Production Modernization. Responsibilities include finance and budget management, budget formulation and execution, business analysis, and overall business operations.

You will report to senior management and external stakeholders on Directorate and program/project performance against financial and operational metrics.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Formulating, distributing, and tracking funding for ALDWP and associated programs
  • Preparing financial plans and monitoring policy implementation
  • Producing routine and ad hoc financial reports
  • Maintaining historical financial data and analyzing trends
  • Interpreting budgetary policies and procedures
  • Providing decision support to leadership
  • Evaluating actual costs versus budgeted funds and explaining variances


You will also support the Laboratory-wide budgeting process, including developing and monitoring direct and indirect program budgets, contributing to business policy development, and establishing performance measures with technical partners. This role plays a critical part in improving financial services, ensuring compliance with business practices, and promoting understanding of financial management standards.

What You Need

Minimum Requirements

Finance/Accounting Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of federal financial practices, including planning and analysis, budget formulation and execution, and general business operations
  • Proven experience analyzing financial data and delivering actionable recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to identify improvements in internal controls and business processes
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound professional judgment in complex environments


Leadership

  • Experience working in a complex organization with diverse operations
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork capabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders


Organizational Skills

  • Strong ability to prioritize, manage projects independently, and execute complex financial and business operations


Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, and 8 years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of Federal Cost Accounting Standards, Federal Acquisition Regulations, appropriations law, and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) or Department of Energy (DOE) financial processes
  • Familiarity with Weapons Activities programs and the Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Evaluation (PPBE) process
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, cost allowability, Strategic Partnership Projects, Cash Work Authorizations, and capital/infrastructure project policies
  • Experience with procurement planning and formal project management methodologies
  • Active Q Clearance
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
