DIOCESE OF ALLENTOWNSecretariat for Temporal Administration– Support ServicesPosition DescriptionJob Title: Bookkeeper/Business Manager/AccountantFLSA: ExemptJob Status: Full TimeReporting Functions: Reports to Director of Support Services at the Secretariat for Temporal Administration Office. Job Function: Responsible for assisting Parish and School Support Department with general accounting functions including payroll processing. Also responsible for preparing budgets and financial reports. Duties and Responsibilities:Provide timely and complete financial information to the Pastor regarding the parish/school/cemetery. Perform general accounting functions such as reconciliation of bank statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and recording of all financial information into the accounting system for parishes, schools, and/or cemeteries.  Prepare budgets and financial reports for the parishes, schools, and/or cemeteries. Process bi-weekly payroll and record all payroll information in the accounting system.  Any other duties requested by Director of Support Services.  Educational Requirements:Associate's degree in accounting or finance preferred or equivalent experience  5 -7 years minimum experience with processing AP/AR, payroll, and overall experience in bookkeeping and accounting. Other Requirements:Proficiency in Microsoft Office, accounting software, and payroll systems. Knowledge of general accounting and financial reporting. Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills; able to handle sensitive confidential information.  Must exhibit a high degree of integrity, loyalty, dependability, and have a strong work ethic. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy. Must possess a high level of interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and proficiently in a team environment. Possess the ability to work with and relate to a variety of personalities/cultures with diplomacy, friendliness, and respect.  Must be a self-starter, well-organized, and have ability to multi-task and work with sense of urgency. Must be able to work independently and proficiently. Additional Conditions of EmploymentDue to the nature and mission of the Catholic Church, all employees are bound to exhibit respect for the teachings and discipline of the Church regarding matters of faith and morals, including maintaining a lifestyle that is in conformity with the teachings of the Catholic Church. Working Conditions: This position requires the employee to travel to any of the parishes, schools, and/or cemetery sites within the 5 counties (Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Northampton, Schuylkill) at least 2 days a week or as needed. Remainder of the work would reside in an office setting. Full time position, 35 hours per week; Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.   Physical Demands: When performing duties, may be required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear both in person and by telephone; frequent use of equipment that includes repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue. Position requires working at desks at different locations approximately two-thirds of the workday; balance of time between standing and walking. Occasionally required to reach and lift with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, like and/or move up to 20 lbs. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, observing general surroundings and activities. Minimal exposure to chemical related to copier equipment and general office solvents.
