Description

University Health Network (UHN) is hiring a Business Operations Analyst to support operational excellence, analytics quality, and organizational performance within the growing field of Healthcare Value-Based Care. This full-time position is remote with occasional on-site meetings. Candidate must be able to maintain HIPAA privacy requirements when working from home. Candidate must be located in the East TN Region. This position will report to the Director of Operations.

Summary of Position

The Business Operations Analyst combines strong operational, analytical, and critical thinking skills with strong clinical and healthcare domain knowledge. This role supports leadership decision-making by evaluating value-based contract performance and translating findings into recommendations for operational action and performance improvement.

The Business Operations Analyst independently evaluates analytical outputs, reporting methodologies, business requirements, and operational processes and ensures organizational decisions are informed by accurate, reliable, and actionable information.

The Business Operations Analyst also provides organizational resiliency by maintaining expertise across reporting methodologies, validation processes, vendor integrations, payer reporting, and operational workflows. The position serves as a secondary resource capable of supporting critical analytics functions during staff transitions, vacancies, and major organizational initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Supports operational initiatives and projects to meet organizational goals
• Analyzes operational, clinical, financial, and performance data to identify trends, drivers, gaps, and opportunities and provides actionable insights and recommendations to operational leadership.
• Determines how available data should be interpreted and used to answer operational questions, then translates that understanding into clear reporting and dashboard specifications.
• Collaborates with operational and analytics teams to develop and implement reporting and analytical solutions that meet identified business needs.
• Evaluates new opportunities, vendor solutions, workflows, and operational processes and provides recommendations to leadership.
• Consistently meets deadlines and milestones for tasks and projects.
• Analyzes and validates data and reporting outputs to support reliable decision-making
• Analyzes and reconciles payer, vendor, and internal data to understand discrepancies, assess their operational significance, determine how differing data sources can be normalized for meaningful and consistent operational use, and recommend appropriate next steps.
• Produces accurate, reliable work and applies appropriate validation and quality assurance practices to analytical and operational deliverables.
• Applies technical and analytical expertise, as needed, to evaluate the accuracy and reliability of organizational data, reporting logic, data transformations, and analytical outputs and identify issues that could affect operational decision-making or performance.
• Demonstrates organizational management, time management, and effective communication.
• Maintains clear, professional communication with leadership, staff, providers, payers, vendors, and external partners.
• Effectively manages multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines while maintaining high-quality work standards.
• Provides timely updates regarding project status, barriers, risks, and recommended solutions.
• Maintains organized documentation of business requirements, testing activities, validation results, and process workflows.
• Actively participates in meetings by contributing relevant analysis, recommendations, agenda items, and ensuring appropriate follow-up on assigned actions.
• Serves as a subject matter expert and resource for operational reporting and analytics.
• Maintains working knowledge of payer and value-based care contract requirements and supports leadership in identifying, tracking, and validating operational and reporting processes needed to meet contractual requirements and program specifications.
• Applies knowledge of value-based care programs, quality measures, attribution methodologies, risk adjustment, payer reporting, and operational performance metrics to assigned work.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of organizational data sources, reporting platforms, vendor solutions, and payer resources when completing analytical and operational work.
• Supports performance improvement and customer service.
• Uses analytical findings to identify and prioritize opportunities for operational improvement and develops recommendations, analytical tools, workflows, and reporting solutions that support strategic initiatives and organizational goals.
• Identifies opportunities to streamline and automate operational and reporting workflows to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
• Collaborates with vendors, payers, analytics resources, and operational teams to resolve reporting and operational issues.
• Maintains effective, responsive, and professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• HIPAA Compliance
• Adheres to HIPAA guidelines.
• Follows company policies regarding HIPAA, privacy, encryption, and IT security.
• Maintains confidentiality of protected health information and organizational data.
• Utilizes secure methods for data access, storage, transmission, and reporting.
• Reports privacy, security, and compliance concerns through appropriate channels.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Analytics, Business, Information Systems, Healthcare Administration, Health Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field preferred. Graduate-level education or certification in analytics, data science, or a related field is a plus.
• Minimum of five years of experience in healthcare analytics, business analysis, operations, reporting, quality improvement, or related field required.
• Strong healthcare clinical and domain knowledge preferred, with experience applying that knowledge to healthcare claims, quality reporting, value-based care programs, risk adjustment, attribution methodologies, population health, and operational decision-making.
• Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into reporting and analytical requirements and evaluate solutions against business objectives.
• Experience performing quality assurance, testing, auditing, reconciliation, and validation of analytical outputs and reporting solutions.
• Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and analytical abilities with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
• Advanced SQL skills and experience developing, reviewing, troubleshooting, and validating Python scripts, ETL processes, data transformations, and analytical workflows.
• Experience with data visualization and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
• Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, written, and verbal communication skills.
