Position Overview
Owns QA and release management for Vaughn's enterprise systems. Writes user stories and acceptance criteria, tests developer work, and coordinates changes into production. Owns end-user release communications and help documentation. Serves as business intelligence liaison and product owner with external consultants and administers the company's Microsoft Power BI platform. Uses AI tooling to carry a meaningful share of the manual lift in testing, analysis, and documentation. Grows into team lead over the two-person Enterprise Applications team.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Writes user stories and acceptance criteria for enterprise-system changes, using AI tools to accelerate drafting and test-case generation, then applies judgment to validate edge cases and business context AI tools miss.
- Tests developer work across Dev, Staging, and UAT; documents defects; coordinates fixes.
- Approves and coordinates promotion of changes to production under standard release discipline.
- Owns release communications and change announcements for enterprise systems.
- Drafts and maintains help documentation and knowledge-base articles, using AI drafting tools for first passes and editing for accuracy and end-user context.
- Learns the enterprise data landscape (Sage 300 CRE, Egnyte, Paperless pVault, Cost-OS, and custom-built web and iOS applications).
- Acts as liaison and product owner with external consultants and programmers to deliver dashboards to PM/Ops, Precon, HR, Accounting, Marketing, and Safety/Risk.
- Delivers dashboards covering job cost and margin tracking, labor productivity, schedule performance, subcontractor and safety reporting, and pipeline and backlog views for Precon.
- Uses AI-assisted analysis in Power BI and Fabric to speed exploratory data work and first-draft visuals, while owning the judgment on what the business actually needs.
- Administers Power BI workspaces, governance with help of consultants as necessary.
- Owns security basics including row-level security, licensing, and adoption monitoring.
- Coordinates with the internal DBA / Enterprise Applications Administrator as technical reference.
- Assists in researching and implementing new software initiatives in the company.
- Promotes teamwork and positive communication among employees.
- Performs other duties and services to ensure a successful functioning of information systems.

Education and Training
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years in business or systems analysis, QA and testing, or enterprise applications.
- Microsoft Power BI certification is a plus.
- Position is onsite in West Houston and may involve occasional travel to Vaughn project sites and offices, mostly driving.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Hands-on, practical experience using AI tools for data analysis, test generation, or documentation drafting, and the ability to speak concretely to how they were used and how their output was validated.
- Working knowledge of BI concepts and hands-on exposure to Power BI.
- Judgment to recognize when an AI-generated analysis or test case is wrong, incomplete, or missing business context.
- Good written and verbal communication skills; able to translate between technical and business audiences.
- Ability to deal with outside consultants and vendors and push open items to completion.
- Self-directed and organized, comfortable with ambiguity and fast tool change.
- SQL proficiency is a plus.
- Construction, AEC, or similar mid-size project-based industry experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with Sage 300 CRE, Egnyte, Paperless pVault, Cost-OS, or Monday.com is a plus.
- Interest in growing into a team lead role; people management is a growth expectation, not a day-one requirement.
