Job Summary:
The Business Systems Analyst – Payments will lead requirements analysis, documentation, and delivery support across real-time payment flows, fraud workflows, and transaction-processing systems. This role demands expert-level knowledge of EMV, ISO 8583, ISO 20022, and real-time rails (RTR) to support complex initiatives within the financial services and payments ecosystem. The BSA will collaborate closely with architecture, engineering, fraud, QA, and product teams to ensure accurate message-level specifications, validation, and compliance with scheme and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead requirements gathering and business/system analysis for RTR, EMV transactions, and ISO-compliant messaging flows.
Analyse and translate ISO 8583 and ISO 20022 message structures, including MTIs, DE fields, mappings, validations, and rules.
Support real-time payment solution design: transaction orchestration, routing, settlement, reconciliation, and fraud impacts.
Produce BRDs, FRDs, message specs, data mappings, sequence diagrams, and user flows.
Collaborate with architecture, engineering, QA, fraud, and product teams to validate integrations and edge cases.
Participate in test planning, test-case reviews, message-level validation, and defect triage.
Support vendor integrations and certification processes (EMV, chip, contactless, RTR technologies).
Ensure documentation aligns with enterprise standards, regulatory requirements, and scheme rules.
Contribute to production readiness, cutover planning, and post-deployment validation for payment-rails functionality.
Required Experience:
Expert-level knowledge of EMV, ISO 8583, and ISO 20022 standards.
Project experience with RTR or similar real-time payment rails.
5+ years as a Business Systems Analyst in payments, financial services, or transaction-processing systems.
Deep experience with EMV chip and contactless authorisation flows and terminal-to-host messaging.
Strong understanding of ISO 8583 MTIs, DE structures, host-switching, and message transformations.
Working knowledge of ISO 20022 (pain/pacs/camt) mapping for real-time payments.
Proven ability to write highly detailed, message-precise functional and technical requirements.
Understanding of fraud, risk, authentication, and decisioning in payment flows.
Experience working in hybrid Agile environments (Jira, Confluence).
Strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement capability.
Nice-to-Have Experience:
Exposure to payment network certification processes (EMVCo, Visa, Mastercard).
Understanding of microservices architectures supporting real-time payments.
Familiarity with scheme rules, reconciliation engines, and message-transformation logic.
Experience supporting large-scale transformation initiatives (multi-year preferred).
