Our firm has been engaged by a growing healthcare technology and services organization that supports complex business operations across claims, healthcare cost management, data, and internal systems. The company operates in a highly systems-driven environment where business teams depend on technology, data, and process improvement to support day-to-day operations and larger strategic initiatives.

They are looking to add a Business Systems Analyst who can bridge the gap between business stakeholders and technical teams. This is not a traditional business analyst role focused only on documentation and meeting notes. The right person will have a technical mindset, strong communication skills, and the ability to understand how systems, data, workflows, and business processes connect.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with business users who may not speak in technical terms, then translating their needs into clear requirements, analysis, documentation, and practical next steps for technical teams. The work will involve business analysis, systems analysis, data analysis, SQL, Excel, and close collaboration with both business and IT stakeholders.

This is a contract position supporting healthcare-related business systems and claims-oriented work. The role is expected to be remote, but must be able to work EST hours.

The Role You’ll Play

The Business Systems Analyst will work directly with business stakeholders, technology teams, and project resources to understand business needs, analyze current systems and processes, and help translate those needs into clear technical and functional requirements.

This person will need to be comfortable asking good questions, organizing ambiguity, and helping non-technical business users think through systems, workflows, data, and requirements. The role requires someone who can operate between business and IT, understand enough technically to be credible, and communicate clearly enough to keep projects moving.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partner with business stakeholders to gather, clarify, and document business, functional, and technical requirements.

  • Translate business needs into clear requirements, workflows, user stories, process flows, data needs, and technical documentation.

  • Work closely with technical teams to ensure requirements are understood and properly translated into system changes, reporting, integrations, or process improvements.

  • Perform systems analysis to understand how applications, data, workflows, and business processes interact.

  • Support data analysis activities using tools such as SQL, Excel, and other reporting or analysis platforms.

  • Help bridge communication between business users who may not have a technical background and IT teams responsible for delivering technical solutions.

  • Analyze current-state processes and systems, identify gaps or inefficiencies, and help define future-state improvements.

  • Support projects related to claims, healthcare operations, business systems, and internal technology initiatives.

  • Participate in requirements sessions, stakeholder interviews, process mapping, testing support, issue triage, and project documentation.

  • Help business users define what they need from systems, data, workflows, and reporting in a way that can be acted on by technical teams.

  • Collaborate with project managers, developers, data teams, QA resources, and business operations teams.

  • Support testing efforts by helping define acceptance criteria, reviewing test scenarios, validating outputs, and assisting with defect clarification.

  • Communicate project status, open questions, risks, and dependencies clearly to both business and technical stakeholders.

Background Profile:

The ideal candidate is a practical Business Systems Analyst who can think technically, communicate clearly, and work effectively with both business and IT teams. This person does not need to be a developer, but they should understand systems, data, workflows, and technical requirements well enough to ask the right questions and produce useful documentation.

A strong fit will have experience working in healthcare, claims, insurance, benefits administration, TPA, payer, provider, or another complex operational environment. Claims experience is not necessarily the only way to be successful, but it would be highly valuable because the role requires understanding healthcare business language, data, and workflows.

Ideal background includes:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst, Systems Analyst, Technical Business Analyst, Data Analyst, or similar role.

  • Experience gathering and documenting business, functional, technical, and data-related requirements.

  • Strong ability to communicate with business stakeholders and translate business needs into clear technical direction.

  • Experience working with technical teams, including developers, data engineers, QA analysts, project managers, and application teams.

  • Strong systems-thinking ability with an understanding of how workflows, applications, data, integrations, and business processes connect.

  • Hands-on experience with SQL for data analysis, research, validation, or reporting support.

  • Strong Excel skills for analysis, data review, comparison, documentation, and stakeholder-facing work.

  • Experience creating process flows, requirements documents, user stories, data mapping documents, current-state/future-state analysis, and related project documentation.

  • Ability to work through ambiguity and help business users clarify what they need from a system, process, report, or data set.

  • Experience supporting testing, UAT, issue resolution, requirements validation, and production support activities.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while staying aligned with stakeholders and project teams.

Preferred experience:

  • Healthcare, claims management, benefits administration, payer, provider, TPA, insurance, or healthcare technology experience.

  • Experience working with Claims Management Systems (VBA, Javelina, etc.)

  • Experience working with claims data, healthcare operations, member data, provider data, eligibility, billing, payments, or related healthcare workflows.

  • Experience supporting data-heavy projects involving reporting, system integrations, data validation, or process improvement.

  • Experience working in regulated environments where accuracy, documentation, and stakeholder alignment are important.

  • Experience with business intelligence, reporting tools, data warehouses, or enterprise systems.
