GENERAL FUNCTION:
Performs broad assignments requiring extensive/specialized knowledge of procurement practices, procedures, sources, and materials.
TYPICAL DUTIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.
- Reviews vendor network to ascertain supplier's competitiveness and performance.
- Recommends additions and deletions of vendors to and from vender roster.
- Monitors inventory for appropriate balance between adequate supply and over-supply.
- Obtains quotes, negotiates price and terms, and places orders.
- Arranges shipment and transfers of materials.
- Inputs purchasing information to automated data handling system.
- Processes invoices, debits, and credits.
- Resolves issues with suppliers concerning discrepancies in prices, terms, returns, shortages, or quality by renegotiating price, replacement, or back charges.
- Consults with manufacturing personnel to evaluate purchased products, reschedule orders, determine new procurement requirements, and resolve invoicing and shipment issues.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Considerable knowledge of all phases of purchasing activities for industry products, industry regulations, and company standards.
- Ability to achieve reasonable procurement outcomes with consistency.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Experience using Microsoft suite, especially Excel.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication, teamwork, collaboration, and relationship management.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
Completion of two years of college level course work with major emphasis in Supply Chain Management or Business Administration and considerable professional level purchasing experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
