Annual Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,800.00 plus an estimated additional ROA annual compensation of $18,000-$23,000 based on division performance.

Basic Job Functions:

Nucor Steel, Auburn, NY is seeking a forward-thinking and process-minded Buyer to coordinate, oversee, and execute effective procurement strategies that support mill operations, maintenance reliability, and capital project success. This role is responsible for purchasing and maintaining inventory of stock and non-stock maintenance, repair, and operations items; refining procurement processes and procedures; developing and managing vendor relationships; and serving as a subject matter expert in support of purchasing transactions, reporting, and analysis.

The Buyer will manage order placement, coordinate on-time deliveries, perform cycle counts, process end-of-month reconciliation, support raw material and outside processing initiatives, and back up other purchasing teammates as needed.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

Procurement & Inventory Management
  • Execute purchasing strategies for stock and non-stock items to maintain required plant inventory levels.
  • Place purchase orders and coordinate delivery to ensure on-time availability for maintenance and production.
  • Perform cycle counts and maintain inventory accuracy across all assigned categories.
  • Process end-of-month input and reconciliation to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Support raw material procurement, outside processing, and capital project purchasing as needed.

Vendor & Supplier Relations
  • Develop and manage vendor relationships to drive financial success and supply chain resilience.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and service agreements to maximize value for the division.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.

Process & Systems
  • Serve as a subject matter expert purchasing transactions, reporting, and analysis.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance procurement efficiency.
  • Document purchasing procedures and maintain compliance with divisional and corporate standards.
  • Back up other purchasing teammates and provide cross-functional support as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Supervisor and/or manager recommendation required.
  • 2 years of purchasing experience OR 2 years of supply chain experience; OR an Associate's degree or higher in a relevant field.
  • Applied knowledge and practice using Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word.
  • Knowledge of general purchasing and accounting practices.
  • Experience with inventory management
  • Strong commitment to safety, with active involvement in safety initiatives.
  • Experience with process documentation and process improvement.
  • Experience with customer or supplier development.
