Job Description

This contract Buyer role supports a busy manufacturing environment by purchasing raw materials and finished goods, managing suppliers, and ensuring on-time delivery through SAP or a similar ERP system. The position runs for an initial 6-month term with strong potential to convert to a permanent role, offering stable hours, schedule flexibility, and the opportunity to grow within a global organization. The Buyer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to align purchasing decisions with production priorities and demand.

Responsibilities

• Purchase raw materials and finished goods to support manufacturing operations and production schedules.
• Use SAP or a similar ERP system to create purchase orders, track orders, manage inventory levels, and maintain accurate supplier and material data.
• Manage supplier relationships, including monitoring performance, lead times, and delivery reliability.
• Ensure on-time delivery of materials by proactively following up with suppliers and resolving delivery or quality issues.
• Interpret demand signals and production plans to determine appropriate purchasing quantities and timing.
• Analyze spend, SKUs, and usage trends to support cost-effective purchasing decisions.
• Coordinate closely with internal teams, including materials, operations, and other cross-functional partners, to align purchasing with changing production priorities.
• Support negotiation activities with suppliers to secure favorable terms and conditions where appropriate.
• Maintain clear, consistent communication and follow-through with both suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Contribute to real-time decision making in an onsite manufacturing environment by providing accurate purchasing and supply status updates.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with an ERP system, preferably SAP, for purchasing, order tracking, and supplier management.
• Manufacturing purchasing or procurement experience, with a strong understanding of raw materials and supplier lead times.
• Proven ability to work within a manufacturing environment and adapt to shifting production priorities.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret demand, manage spend and SKUs, and make sound purchasing decisions.
• Demonstrated experience in supplier management, including monitoring performance and ensuring on-time delivery.
• Effective cross-department and cross-functional communication skills.
• Strong follow-through and organizational skills to manage multiple open orders and priorities.
• Experience with raw material purchasing and negotiation with suppliers.

Work Environment

This is a fully onsite role in a manufacturing facility where all key manufacturing functions are located together, enabling real-time decision making and strong cross-functional collaboration. The position offers consistent, stable hours with a typical schedule around standard daytime shifts (such as 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), along with some schedule flexibility to support work-life balance. You will work daily with SAP or a similar ERP system and interact frequently with materials, operations, and other onsite teams in a feedback-driven environment within a stable, global organization.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Hartford, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
