JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Buyer/Planner
LOCATION: Chatsworth, CA
SHIFT: Monday - Thursday (6:15 AM – 4:45 PM)
Position Summary
The Buyer/Planner is responsible for ensuring the timely procurement and planning of materials to support production requirements. This role involves managing supplier relationships, executing purchasing strategies, and aligning material availability with the master production schedule. The position plays a critical role in maintaining efficient operations and meeting organizational goals.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for selecting and negotiating with approved vendors and placing purchase or production requisitions in response to product requirements established by various departments within the company. Will select and negotiate with approved vendors and place purchase orders to meet material requirements relative to quantity and timing. Will follow a master production schedule to determine the quantity and order date for materials needed. May give some guidance and direction to other Buyers/Material Planners.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute material requirements based on the master production schedule, ensuring availability aligned with production timelines.
- Source, select, and negotiate with approved vendors to secure optimal pricing, quality, and delivery performance.
- Issue and manage purchase orders and production requisitions to meet quantity and timing requirements.
- Oversee material planning functions, including inventory levels, replenishment strategies, and distribution.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, engineering, and other departments to support production objectives.
- Monitor and expedite supplier performance and internal processes to maintain schedule integrity.
- Manage supplier relationships and support product lifecycle requirements.
- Conduct inventory audits and assist in improving systems and processes.
- Support and utilize MRP systems for planning, sourcing, and tracking materials.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 years of experience in production planning, material planning, and/or purchasing.
- Preferably, a strong understanding of MRP systems and supply chain processes.
- Proven ability to negotiate and manage vendor relationships.
- Solid communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
- Demonstrated leadership capability and sound decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with machine shop components or manufacturing environments.
- Experience in aerospace or aviation industry is highly desirable.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES
Language Skills:
Ability to read, understand, and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, and procedural documentation. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish) are preferred but not required.
