PECO-Astronics, located in Clackamas, Oregon, designs and manufactures highly engineered commercial aerospace interior components and systems for the aerospace industry. We specialize in Passenger Service Units (PSUs) which incorporate air handling, emergency oxygen, electrical power management and cabin lighting systems. We also manufacture a wide range of fuel access doors that meet stringent strength, fuel sealing and anti-corrosion requirements. 

We are adding a Buyer/Planner I to our team. This role is in a complex manufacturing environment that combines basic buying and production planning responsibilities. The Buyer/Planner I supports production by preparing and monitoring purchase orders, ensuring material availability, and performing routine planning activities using an MRP/ERP system. Exposure to government or defense-related business, including ITAR-controlled materials or components, is a plus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and monitor purchase orders and procure materials to support production plans. 
  • Perform routine MRP analysis in support of forecast and customer requirements; ensure material availability and respond to demand fluctuations.
  • Build and maintain stable working relationships with suppliers and communicate quality and documentation requirements.
  • Monitor material levels and the status of materials; provide basic reports to management on material status, shortages, and schedule adherence.
  • Work to resolve material shortage issues; identify, escalate, and mitigate potential parts shortages.
  • Provide input on supplier performance evaluation.
  • Ensure that all inventory items are purchased from approved sources and in accordance with internal procedures and quality standards.
  • Release or defer job orders based on MRP demand, capacity, and material availability.  Analyze MRP and understand capacity to level-load schedule.
  • Work closely with Engineering to help maintain accurate Bills of Material (BOMs) and manufacturing plans, and to support scheduling of NPI (New Product Introduction) activities.

 

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & EXPERIENCES

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and related experience will be considered.
  • Some experience in production purchasing and/or manufacturing planning in a job shop/OEM or similar manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems and basic understanding of how they are used to manage inventory, plan production, and minimize production downtime.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel (sorting, filtering, basic formulas; advanced skills a plus), Word, and presentation software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong ability to work in a team environment and collaborate across Production, Engineering, Warehouse, Customer Service, and Supply Chain.
  • Basic knowledge of lean / throughput techniques and MRP theory and concepts; interest in participating in LEAN projects and Kaizen events.
  • ASCM/APICS, ISM or related supply chain/operations coursework or certification preferred, but not required.
  • Experience working in highly regulated environment, and familiarity with the aerospace industry or government/defense (including ITAR) is a plus.
