Buyer / Procurement Specialist

Location: Fairport, NY – 100% onsite
Pay: $22–$28/hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week; flexible start time between 7:00 and 8:30 a.m.
Assignment: Anticipated one-year contract with possible extension or conversion based on business needs. 

We are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer / Procurement Specialist to support purchasing and supply management activities within a technical manufacturing environment. This position combines hands-on buying responsibilities with supplier management, contract administration, cost reduction, and inventory support.

Responsibilities

  • Place purchase orders and ensure the timely supply of materials, equipment, and services.
  • Use SAP and MRP information to manage purchasing requirements and supplier commitments.
  • Communicate regularly with suppliers and internal stakeholders regarding pricing, delivery, quality, and supply issues.
  • Assist with supplier negotiations, sourcing strategies, and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Create and maintain supply agreements, pricing agreements, NDAs, certificates of insurance, and related documentation.
  • Track supplier quality, delivery, cost, and overall performance.
  • Support supplier relationship management activities, including audits when needed.
  • Help manage inventory levels, including slow-moving and obsolete materials.
  • Resolve invoicing and purchasing discrepancies.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams focused on process improvement and supply-chain issue resolution.
  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies, contractual requirements, and applicable regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • At least five years of experience as a plant or corporate buyer.
  • Hands-on purchasing experience, including placing orders, working from MRP requirements, and communicating with suppliers.
  • Experience using SAP.
  • Background supporting manufacturing operations, planning, quality, engineering, or supply chain.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Associate degree with relevant experience required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Due to facility and contractual requirements, candidates must be U.S. citizens and able to meet applicable DOD/ITAR compliance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with strategic sourcing, commodity management, or global supply management.
  • Contract writing or contract administration experience.
  • Supplier negotiation and price/cost analysis experience.
  • Experience supporting global manufacturing operations.
  • CPSM, CPM, APICS, Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt, or Green Belt certification.
