Description
We are seeking an experienced Buyer to support purchasing and supply chain activities within a fast-paced electronics manufacturing environment.
The Buyer will work closely with Purchasing, Program Management, Production, and vendors to ensure materials are available to meet production requirements and customer deadlines. This position requires someone who can multitask, work independently, take initiative, and work well as part of a team.
The ideal candidate will have previous purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment and strong experience working with MRP/ERP systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work closely with Program Management to manage the supply chain for various customer programs
- Purchase materials and services in support of production and operational requirements
- Monitor open Purchase Orders and confirm delivery dates with vendors
- Expedite material shortages and maintain accurate PO dates
- Help maintain appropriate inventory levels and support annual inventory-turn targets
- Proactively identify and address potential material shortages to prevent production delays
- Ensure purchasing costs remain aligned with estimated and targeted costs
- Participate in cost-savings initiatives to improve program margins
- Manage excess customer material levels and communicate issues with Program Management
- Manage MRO Purchase Orders and consigned material
- Review and resolve non-conforming or non-receivable materials
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and purchasing improvements
- Negotiate pricing and cost savings with suppliers
- Negotiate and maintain purchase and cash discounts when appropriate
- Coordinate inventory availability and production schedule information across Program Management, Purchasing, Stockroom, Manufacturing, Test, Quality, and Engineering
- Support special projects and other supply chain initiatives as needed
- Perform duties in accordance with company policies and procedures
Qualifications
- Experience working with MRP/ERP systems required
- Previous purchasing/buyer experience within a manufacturing environment
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Strong communication and vendor-management skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple purchasing requirements and deadlines
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively across multiple departments
- Team-oriented with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships
- Electronics manufacturing, EMS, PCB/PCBA, or similar industry experience preferred
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related discipline highly desirable
- 3–5 years of related purchasing/supply chain experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Manufacturing purchasing experience preferred
Computer Skills
- Strong experience with MRP/ERP software
- Microsoft Office
- Experience with Infor ERP/MRP preferred
