Buyer - Construction / Engineering

Location: Suffolk
Salary: Up to £37,000

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Buyer to join a major infrastructure project in Suffolk, supporting the delivery of complex construction and ground engineering works.

This is an excellent opportunity for a procurement professional to take responsibility for end-to-end purchasing, working closely with project, technical and operational teams to secure materials, equipment and services while delivering value and maintaining strong supplier relationships.

The Role

As Buyer, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing the full procurement process from sourcing and tendering through to supplier appointment and management.
  • Researching the market and sourcing suitable suppliers.
  • Managing RFIs, RFQs and tenders, evaluating quotations and making recommendations.
  • Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships.
  • Monitoring supplier performance and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Raising and managing purchase orders in line with project requirements.
  • Supporting project teams with fast-paced procurement requirements and short lead times.
  • Monitoring market conditions, supply risks and opportunities.
  • Working closely with project, technical and operational teams to understand requirements and provide effective procurement solutions.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience across the full procurement lifecycle, including sourcing, tendering and supplier management.
  • Strong commercial awareness and confidence reviewing quotations and costs.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience within construction, civils, engineering or infrastructure would be advantageous.
  • Experience with procurement systems such as SAP or Jaggaer would be beneficial.
  • CIPS qualification, or willingness to work towards one, would be advantageous.
