About Us

Cleaveland/Price specializes in the design and manufacture of high voltage disconnect switches and switch automation products. The products that we offer are unique in design, and some include patented features. Products have been developed and tested in accordance with IEEE, ANSI, and NEMA standards for high voltage equipment. They are primarily used by investor-owned and public electric utilities and large industrial operations in substation, distribution, transmission, and generation applications.

All company operations take place in a modern 218,300 sq. ft. multi-site facility situated on 20 acres east of Trafford, PA. The facility houses virtually all resources for product realization, including engineering, supply chain, parts fabrication, electro-mechanical assembly, and testing. Fabrication capabilities include laser and plasma cutting, CNC machining, CNC punching, and automated bending and forming. The company also utilizes specialized processes, such as MIG and TIG welding, friction welding, silver and tin electroplating, and silver brazing.

Your Goal

Cleaveland/Price is seeking an experienced manufacturing procurement professional for an international materials purchasing/planning position within our Purchasing Department. The ideal candidate will be capable of scheduling materials to meet demanding deadlines, negotiating with domestic and international suppliers, and placing purchase orders to meet on-time targets. The Procurement Specialist will have sole ownership of all global vendors and vendor relations, assuring clear and concise communication with manufacturing production and wholesalers. The position is responsible for the general procurement process, seeking new and potential supplier relationships, placing purchase orders with suppliers, understanding priorities, and expediting urgent requirements. This role may provide day-to-day guidance to others on the team.

Your Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains ongoing relationships with current and preferred suppliers, both domestic and international
  • Utilizes the material requirements planning system to understand demand and supply targets
  • Works directly with freight forwarders; understands the trends and challenges of freight forwarding for both pricing and capacity
  • Negotiates prices, terms, and quotations from vendors and suppliers, and enters contractual agreements for purchases
  • Seeks opportunities through negotiation for better pricing/delivery terms
  • Gathers information from historical usage for blanket order contracts
  • Maintains relevant information and purchase orders in related computer system(s), including detailed notes for follow-up and expediting to ensure on-time deliveries
  • Works with various functions within the company to select suppliers and establish alternative sources of supply
  • Develop, negotiate, and implement strategies resulting in improved supply chain performance, enhanced product quality, innovative technology, and maximum value
  • Ensures work practices are compliant with all OSHA and ISO standards
  • International procurement experience, including general knowledge of import/export compliance, is a plus
  • Analyzes scopes of supply and contract agreements, carries out risk analyses, and introduces negotiation recommendations together with commodity management to prepare for negotiations with suppliers and initiate appropriate measures
  • Identifies opportunities for cost savings and communicates them internally
  • Confirms compliance and maintenance of all applicable local and international laws and regulations
  • Ensures that operational performance improvement is a continuous effort and overall performance meets the needs of our customers
  • Reduces unplanned accessorial costs by working with production and suppliers
  • Assures safety stock and inventory level management

Your Background

  • BS in business, supply chain management, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with MRP/ERP is required; use of SYSPRO is a plus
  • Experience with production/manufacturing, including electronic component and assembly environments, is preferred
  • Proven background working with international/overseas suppliers, including importing processes, customs, and global logistics
  • Knowledge of global sourcing
  • Ability to demonstrate the required proficiencies and competencies to successfully perform the job
  • ISM, CPM/CPSM, or APICS certification is not required but is a plus
  • Drives significant cost savings through network optimization, competitive bidding processes, and direct negotiations
  • ISO standards and certifications are desirable

Physical Requirements

  • Sedentary work. Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, and viewing a computer terminal.
  • Requires concentration, accuracy, and focused mental effort while multi-tasking in a team environment.
  • Ability to wear standard personal protective equipment (PPE) while on the shop floor or in other work areas where mandated (i.e., steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, and/or other applicable PPE).
