Job Description:

SUMMARY

We are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive Buyer to join our team. This role is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing goods and services to support operational and production needs. The Buyer works closely with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure optimal inventory levels, cost control, supplier performance, and overall procurement efficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

These are the core job functions performed regularly. Scope and complexity of duties may vary based on the individual’s experience. Additional duties or special projects may be assigned as needed.

Primary Responsibilities (80%)

  • Kanban & Purchasing Agreements: Establish and maintain Kanban agreements, determine appropriate quantities, and ensure inventory meets production needs. Maintain accurate purchasing records.
  • Procurement: Monitor stock levels, analyze inventory needs, and place purchase orders accordingly. Collaborate with Accounts Payable and Receiving to resolve discrepancies.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identify and track potential stockout risks. Propose mitigation strategies to minimize disruption and cost. Communicate effectively with impacted departments.
  • Supply Chain Monitoring: Track incoming shipments, ensure timely inventory availability to support assembly and customer demand, and expedite material as needed.
  • Supplier Management: Communicate proactively with suppliers. Analyze supplier performance based on KPIs (quality, cost, delivery, service) and collaborate on improvement initiatives. Negotiate pricing and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Effectively work closely with teams such as Accounting, Engineering, Assembly, Warehouse, and Customer Service to support integrated supply chain operations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Lead supplier negotiations and contract establishment; maintain supporting documentation.
  • Partner with Strategic Sourcing Coordinator to implement design transitions into production.
  • Assist and train team members in Kanban methodology and best practices.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in purchasing or procurement.
  • Experience in manufacturing, engineering, or customer service environments preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; advanced Excel skills preferred. Experience with ERP systems such as Epicor is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, use a computer, and perform tasks in an office environment.
  • Must be able to occasionally access the production floor.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.

Work Environment

  • This is an in-office position.
  • Primarily office-based with occasional visits to production areas.
  • Standard work hours apply, with flexibility required to meet deadlines or address urgent supplier matters.

Compensation Information:

$70,000-$86,000
