We are seeking a Production Operation Manager to oversee and optimize end-to-end production operations at our Hayward laboratory. This role is responsible for streamlining workflows, enhancing operational efficiency, and driving process improvements across multiple production departments, including gene synthesis, cloning, DNA preparation, oligo synthesis, Sanger sequencing, and Nanopore sequencing. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with Commercial, R&D, Project Management (PM), Marketing, Logistics, and Automation teams to ensure smooth production execution, cost-effective operations, and exceptional service delivery
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Operations & Workflow Optimization
Oversee and manage all production activities across synthesis and sequencing.
Streamline and optimize production workflows, implementing best practices and efficiency improvements.
Implement quality control and record-keeping measures to maintain high production standards and regulatory compliance.
Facilitate technology transfers to other sites, ensuring consistency in production processes.
Work closely with the automation team to implement cost-saving measures and improve operational scalability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Project Execution
Collaborate with R&D teams to optimize existing processes and expand service offerings.
Partner with the PM team to plan, execute, and optimize customer projects, ensuring timely completion.
Work with marketing teams to design and improve marketing materials for production services.
Engage with external vendors to evaluate and test new products for workflow optimization.
Lead customer project tracking by coordinating with production team "project managers" to ensure complex/custom projects meet deadlines.
Technical Expertise & Team Leadership
Manage and oversee the entire production team, providing guidance, training, and leadership development.
Guide department leaders in troubleshooting production issues and driving continuous process improvement.
Act as a technical support scientist, addressing complex technical questions and resolving client issues.
Serve as a technical advisor for key accounts, holding client meetings to review project needs and ensure optimal service delivery..
Financial & Inventory Management
Manage inventory, consumables, and budgeting, ensuring cost-effective production without bottlenecks.
Issue quotes and make pricing-related decisions to maintain competitive service offerings.
Develop customized data delivery, status reporting, and documentation processes for key accounts using programming tools.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
MS/Ph.D. degree in a relevant life science discipline, such as Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Genomics, and Cell Biology or a related field.
5+ years of experience in production operations, manufacturing, or laboratory management in life sciences or biotech.
Proven track record in workflow optimization, quality control implementation, and cost efficiency strategies.
Strong knowledge of supply chain, logistics, automation, and production planning in a laboratory setting.
Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Experience in technical customer support and key account management is a plus.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining high attention to detail.
