Cable Technician

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Position Overview

We are hiring a Cable Technician for a long-term contract opportunity supporting a large-scale airport technology environment. This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, repair, and documentation of low-voltage cabling infrastructure with a strong focus on fiber optic systems. The ideal candidate will support critical connectivity needs across airport facilities and ensure reliable physical network infrastructure in both public and secure operational environments.

Responsibilities

  • Install and terminate fiber optic and copper cabling in accordance with industry standards and project requirements.

  • Perform fiber splicing, connectorization, polishing, testing, and repair activities.

  • Conduct cable certification, troubleshooting, and diagnostics using testing equipment and OTDR tools.

  • Install and maintain racks, patch panels, cable trays, ladder racks, inner-duct systems, and telecom room infrastructure.

  • Perform cable pulls through conduits, pathways, and structured cabling systems in various operational environments.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of cabling routes, labeling, patching, and infrastructure modifications.

  • Support network and systems teams during equipment deployments, cutovers, upgrades, and relocations.

  • Identify and resolve cabling faults, fiber breaks, signal loss, and connectivity issues.

  • Ensure compliance with NEC, BICSI, TIA, and established infrastructure standards.

  • Coordinate with contractors, construction teams, and facilities personnel on installation and infrastructure projects.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in low-voltage cabling installation and support, preferably within enterprise or campus environments.

  • Strong experience with fiber optic termination, splicing, testing, certification, and troubleshooting.

  • Knowledge of structured cabling standards and copper cabling technologies including Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A.

  • Familiarity with telecom room build-outs, cable management systems, and pathway infrastructure.

  • Ability to read and interpret cabling diagrams, blueprints, and construction drawings.

  • Experience supporting large facilities, industrial sites, transportation environments, or similar complex facilities is preferred.

  • BICSI certification or equivalent training is preferred.

  • Ability to lift equipment, work on ladders, and safely perform physical installation tasks.

  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
