Job Summary/Basic Function
Position functions as the lead technician responsible for all aspects of structured cabling. The position installs, manages, and maintains fiber-optic and copper cabling used to provide data services to the campus. Position also interfaces with contractors to ensure standards and best practices are followed.
Specific Responsibilities Required Relevant Education & Experience
Education: Associate's Degree or equivalent completed education (2 years); Experience: 1-2 Years

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Install and maintain fiber optic and copper cable and wiring closet equipment to serve needs of voice, data, and video network. Install and maintain video security system devices. Write and clear Work Orders and Trouble Reports. Maintain and repair all copper and fiber outside plant cabling.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Install, troubleshoot, and maintain intrabuilding and interbuilding copper and fiber cabling for transmission of voice, data, and video content. Test fiber optic cable for connectivity, loss, length, reflectivity, and defects. Repair fiber optic terminations or broken fibers. Splice fiber optic cable using fusion splicing technique. Maintain cable records for all copper and fiber cabling using GIS-based platform and other relevant systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Install, manage, and repair copper and fiber optic cabling for network hardware infrastructure in IDF closets and core network locations. Perform tests, repairs, and activations of user network ports. Coordinate all work with network engineers to ensure no loss of service. Interface with Network Engineers on day-to-day network connectivity issues either at user workstations or between data centers or IDF closets. Diagnose problems and bring service back online in a timely manner.

Evaluate routine requests for service and determine most cost-effective means to meet customer needs. Ensures the most cost effective and efficient methods to provide high quality service are employed. Determine quantity and type of parts needed for the work and ensure these are on hand in sufficient time to meet schedules. Maintain equipment and supplies inventory. Order new and replacement parts as needed to ensure adequate stocks are on hand.

Reviews all aspects of structured cabling infrastructure. Provides contribution to standards for relevant documentation and labelling standards, including Division 27 standards for low-voltage cabling systems. Interacts with contractors to ensure work is completed in compliance with standards, regulations, best practices, and procedures.
