Job Title: CACFP Food Service Assistant- Dinner Program Reports To: Director of Food Services Organization: Tejano Center Division: RYSS Texas Public Schools Location: Campus Assigned FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Emp Employment Status: Part-Time, 10:30AM-4:30PM Work Calendar Status: 10 Months (195 Days) Salary: MIN: $14/hrly MID: $14.96/hrly MAX: $16/hrly Revised: August 25, 2026

POSITION SUMMARY The CACFP Food Service Assistant supports the daily operation of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) dinner program. This position assists with preparing, serving, documenting, and cleaning up meals provided to students participating in after- school programming. The Food Service Assistant helps ensure meals are served safely, efficiently, and in accordance with CACFP requirements, food safety standards, and organizational procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Education

  • High school diploma or GED preferred. Experience
  • Previous food service, school nutrition, cafeteria, childcare, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a school or youth program setting is preferred but not required.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Assist with receiving, preparing, organizing, and serving CACFP dinner meals.
  • Ensure meals are served according to established meal schedules and program requirements.
  • Follow approved menus, meal patterns, portion sizes, and serving procedures.
  • Maintain accurate meal counts and required CACFP documentation.
  • Assist with recording the number of meals served and completing daily meal service records.
  • Follow proper food handling, sanitation, and food safety procedures.
  • Monitor food temperatures and maintain required temperature logs.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary food preparation and serving area.
  • Clean and sanitize tables, serving areas, equipment, utensils, and other food service areas after meal service.
  • Properly store food, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist with inventory and notify the appropriate supervisor when food or supplies are needed.
  • Follow procedures to prevent food waste and ensure proper storage of unused food.
  • Provide courteous and professional service to students, staff, and program participants.
  • Follow all applicable CACFP, Texas Department of Agriculture, health department, and organizational requirements.
  • Participate in required CACFP, food safety, civil rights, and departmental training.
  • Immediately report food safety concerns, shortages, meal count discrepancies, or other compliance concerns to the supervisor
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with students and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the CACFP dinner program and Child Nutrition Department.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to maintain accurate meal counts and basic program documentation.
  • Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and team members.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and positive attitude.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, reach, lift, carry, and perform repetitive movements associated with food service.
  • Ability to lift and carry food, supplies, and equipment as required for the position.
  • Ability to work in environments that may include hot or cold temperatures associated with food preparation and storage.

Working Conditions Work is primarily performed in a school cafeteria, kitchen, or designated meal service area. The employee may be exposed to kitchen equipment, food preparation areas, temperature changes, cleaning products, and other conditions typically associated with food service operations. The employee must follow all applicable safety, sanitation, food handling, and CACFP procedures.
