CAD Design Technologist & Quality Assurance Inspector (AutoCAD/SolidWorks)

In this role, you’ll translate engineering vision into accurate CAD deliverables and ensure finished work meets spec—supporting engineering, production, and fabrication from first sketch to final handoff.

A day in this role

• Turn concepts into reality: Convert sketches, specs, and design inputs into precise 2D/3D models and drawings in AutoCAD and SolidWorks (general arrangement, manufacturing, installation).
• Engineer for buildability: Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs), carry out tolerance considerations, and select appropriate materials aligned to codes, safety, and company standards.
• Validate quality on the floor: Inspect first articles and finished goods against drawings and specifications; perform quality checks on both fabricated and purchased items.
• Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with engineers, designers, project managers, production, and subcontractors to confirm feasibility and compliance.
• Close the loop on improvements: Document findings, drive corrective actions, and revise drawings to reflect changes and optimizations.
• Contribute to project rigor: Participate in design reviews, support testing protocols, assist with bid evaluations, and maintain calculations, drawings, specifications, and equipment lists.
• Keep projects on track: Update trackers and project checklists, and prepare complete operations and maintenance manuals for final turnover.

What you’ll bring

• 5+ years of drafting/design experience using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, CAD, or a related technical field.
• Solid grasp of engineering principles, drafting standards, and manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Meticulous attention to detail; strong organization and clear written/verbal communication.
• Ability to work independently as well as with cross-functional teams.
• Awareness of environmental and safety considerations in design and fabrication.
