CAD Drafter/BOM Specialist

Job Summary:

The CAD Drafter/BOM Specialist will be responsible for the design and development of parts, assemblies, and drawings in SolidWorks PDM as well as the creation and management of BOMs and costing. Utilizing feedback from the rest of the engineering team, they will be creating, revising, and maintaining detailed 3D models, assemblies, production drawings, bill of materials (BOMs) and costings for a variety of custom and standard products. This role works closely with the Engineering Lead, Manufacturing Engineer, and other drafter to translate concepts, prototypes, and existing products into manufacturable designs that meet both aesthetic and functional standards in a lean manufacturing environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure SolidWorks drawings and models are accurate, complete, and manufacturable.
• Create and update 2D/3D CAD models, drawings, and drawing packages with dimensions, tolerances, materials, and finishes.
• Maintain organized digital records and filing systems for CAD drawings and revisions using PDM tools.
• Communicate effectively with managers, coworkers, vendors, and the fabrication team to ensure production drawings support manufacturing processes.
• Assist in creating fixtures and tooling for production and quality control, including the use of our onsite 3D printers, lasers, and mills.
• Support BOM creation, updates, and analysis in coordination with engineering and production teams.
• Manage and maintain BOM data in Sage, our ERP system, ensuring items, revisions, quantities, units of measure, costings, and component relationships are accurate and aligned with released engineering documentation.
• Support and maintain product costing in Sage and the ERP system by reviewing material, labor, and process costs, assisting with cost rollups, and coordinating updates that improve pricing accuracy and manufacturing visibility.
• Participate in design reviews, prototyping, and testing, incorporating feedback into design improvements with design for manufacturing (DFM) mindset
• Contribute to lean manufacturing initiatives through process documentation and component optimization.
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Certified Solidworks Professional (CSWP) or demonstrated advanced Solidworks skillset
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, or Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in mechanical or manufacturing drafting (sheet metal experience and metal tubing preferred).
• 3+ years’ experience using SolidWorks with proficiency in Assembly, part, drawing and file creation and management.
• Experience using SolidWorks PDM, Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, SharePoint, Sage (or equivalent ERP system) and Outlook.
• A creative problem solver with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and collaborate with others proactively in a friendly environment.
• Experience with costing tools and manufacturing methods
• Should have the ability to use metrology tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, surface gauges, etc.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, or welded assemblies is a plus.
