Job Title: CAD Drafter / DesignerJob Description The CAD Drafter / Designer creates and updates detailed sketches, working drawings, and contract documents using CAD software to support engineering and utility projects. This role prepares accurate 2D and 3D models, interprets complex customer requirements and technical specifications, and produces documentation that supports design drawings. The position requires familiarity with drafting techniques, engineering concepts, and terminology, along with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints. The CAD Drafter / Designer contributes directly to project planning, design, and documentation, often working with tools and applications specific to the utility and energy sector. Responsibilities + Create and update sketches, working drawings, and contract documents using CAD software in support of engineering and utility projects. + Prepare accurate 2D and 3D models that reflect detailed customer requirements and engineering specifications. + Prepare engineering plans, designs, specifications, and standards in alignment with project objectives and industry practices. + Develop and prepare engineering studies to support specific program objectives and to help determine appropriate investment levels. + Identify, conduct, and document research to ensure compliance with applicable system, code, and regulatory requirements. + Prepare cost estimates and project evaluations to support planning and decision-making. + Interact and coordinate directly with internal and external customers to understand project requirements and clarify technical details. + Perform or manage the creation and updating of job work orders and project documentation, including tasks, calculations, and related records. + Conduct office and field research, including measurement and verification of equipment data, and create and update equipment records accordingly. + Direct and perform data and records management to maintain accurate and up-to-date project information. + Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and design, operation, and maintenance requirements for assigned projects. + Coordinate the work of others who assist in specific assignments, including contractors and consultants, to support project delivery. + Identify improvements to department standards, processes, templates, tools, and databases, with oversight from more senior team members. + Solve technical and project-related problems independently, working effectively around barriers to maintain progress. + Communicate technical information clearly and effectively to team members and internal and external customers. + Check and review simple project work completed by others and provide basic technical guidance to other personnel. + Prepare and maintain documentation that supports design drawings, including reports, notes, and supporting calculations. Essential Skills + 1-2 years of experience with CAD software. + Proficiency in drafting, design, and CAD-based drawing production. + Ability to read and comprehend detailed customer requirements, data sheets, and supplier specifications. + Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints. + Strong organization and documentation skills to manage multiple tasks and project records effectively. + Effective prioritization and basic project management skills to support timely completion of assignments. + Familiarity with drafting techniques, engineering concepts, and engineering terminology. + Ability to communicate technical information clearly to team members and customers. + Attention to detail and accuracy in preparing plans, models, and documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience in design, preparation of specifications, technical field work, or system studies. + Experience in project cost estimating or scheduling. + Experience working with both internal and external customers on projects. + Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D. + Knowledge of utility or energy-related design and utility design concepts. + Knowledge of engineering economics and analysis. + Ability to identify and recommend improvements to standards, processes, templates, tools, and databases. Work Environment This role is based at a site in the Puyallup area and follows a hybrid work arrangement, combining on-site work with remote flexibility as business needs allow. You will work in a professional engineering and utility environment that relies heavily on CAD software and related design tools, including Autodesk Civil 3D, to support complex infrastructure and energy projects. The position is offered as a 24-month contract with the possibility of conversion to a full-time role, and includes paid time off and paid holidays during the contract period. Work is primarily office-based, using standard computer equipment and design applications, with occasional field visits for research, measurement, and verification of equipment data. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Puyallup, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
