The Opportunity

This posting serves as an early career pipeline for Cal Poly Pomona students and recent graduates interested in opportunities with Tetra Tech.

Our Civil Engineering team in Irvine, California, is interested in a Survey / Geomatics Intern to support boundary, topographic, and infrastructure design surveys through precise processing of field survey data and production of high-quality deliverables. This role offers hands-on experience working alongside experienced professionals to transform raw field data, point clouds, legal descriptions, and survey control into accurate boundary surveys, ALTA surveys, and topographic surveys, and construction staking files in support of licensed surveyors and engineering teams.

Essential Job Functions:

• Assist in processing raw field data from total stations, GPS/GNSS, and LiDAR platforms.
• Assist in translating survey data into accurate CAD drawings and deliverables.
• Help prepare boundary surveys, plats, legal descriptions, and exhibit drawings.
• Help develop topographic survey layouts and surface models.
• Help refine and model point-cloud data for survey mapping.
• Collaborate with surveyors and field crews to resolve discrepancies.

Required Qualifications:

• Third- or fourth-year student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Geomatics or Land Survey.
• Familiarity or course work with surveying and mapping, and Microsoft Office.
• Exposure to LiDAR/GIS concepts - a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control.
• Effective communication skills with surveyors and technical teams.
• Willingness to support varied survey project types as needed.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and climb for extended periods during site visits or inspections.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds occasionally (e.g., field equipment, plans, or samples).
• Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate computers, read drawings, review data, and observe site conditions.
• Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, in office and field environments.
• Work may require occasional bending, stooping, reaching, or climbing ladders or stairs.

• Work is typically performed in an office environment with occasional field visits to project sites, including construction areas, treatment facilities, or outdoor settings.
• Fieldwork may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, or uneven terrain.
• Standard business hours apply; extended hours may be required to meet project deadlines.

Compensation Range: $23 - $26 per hour, depending on experience
