Calibration Technician

Job Description

Position Summary

The Calibration Technician is responsible for the calibration, verification, issue, and management of all measuring and test equipment (M&TE) used throughout the facility. This includes performing internal calibrations, coordinating third‑party calibrations, managing the gage check‑in/check‑out system, building and issuing gage kits to support jobs, assembling go/no‑go pins, and performing receiving inspection of new or repaired gages. This role ensures all M&TE is accurate, traceable, properly maintained, and readily available to support manufacturing and quality operations.

Shift: Primarily First Shift; flexibility may be required
FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

•         Perform internal calibration, verification, and basic adjustment of dimensional, mechanical, and electronic instruments.

•         Maintain calibration schedules, records, traceability, and the metrology database.

•         Coordinate and manage third‑party calibration services; review certificates for accuracy and NIST traceability.

•         Manage gage check‑in/checkout, issue job‑specific gages and kits, and maintain an organized gage crib.

•         Conduct receiving inspection for new or repaired gages; verify conformance and enter items into the system.

•         Generate calibration certificates, labels, and documentation; support ISO 9001 and customer audits.

•         Conduct OOT impact assessments, support Gage R&R and other MSA activities.

•         Collaborate with production, engineering, and QC to ensure gage availability and support 5S and safety practices.

 

Authority & Decision Rights

  • Authority to red‑tag and remove inaccurate or unsafe gauges from use.
  • Empowered to place equipment on hold until calibration, repair, or disposition is complete.
  • Escalate persistent equipment or vendor issues to the Quality Control Manager.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • On‑time calibration completion rates
  • Accuracy and completeness of calibration records
  • Turnaround time for gage check‑in/check‑out and job kit issuance
  • Third‑party calibration vendor performance tracking

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years in calibration, gage control, or metrology environment.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional measurement, tolerancing, and uncertainty.
  • Ability to read drawings, GDT, and technical standards.
  • Must meet ITAR requirements for access to controlled technical data.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Metrology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline; relevant military experience (e.g., PMEL or equivalent) is also accepted.
  • Experience with Gage Pack Software or other calibration management software

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. (weights, standards, or gage boxes).
  • Fine motor skills required for assembly of small components and precision adjustments.
  • Work primarily in a shared lab environment with routine exposure to manufacturing areas.
