Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated individual to plan, organize, and implement engaging programs at Camp Awareness, an outdoor day camp located at the Izaak Walton League in Wheel Lock Park. Our camp aims to foster a lasting appreciation for the great outdoors through activities such as hiking and fishing, while introducing participants to the day camp experience. Our goal is to ensure that each day is filled with new and exciting adventures for our youngest campers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee Camp Awareness operations Monday through Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm. • Provide support and supervision of Campers attending Camp Awareness. • Lead a variety of educational and recreational activities, including skits, storytelling, hikes, campfire programs, and nature exploration. • Provide a high level of customer service while working with campers, parents, guests, and staff. • Assist the Camp Supervisor in daily face-to-face communication with parents. • Assist with administrative tasks, such as managing attendance rosters. • Support junior counselors in their roles and responsibilities. • Conduct daily inspections of the park and submit necessary safety checks and work orders. • Assist in maintaining sanitation, housekeeping, and care of campgrounds, supplies, and equipment. • Work collaboratively with other counselors to foster a supportive team environment. • Administer first aid as necessary and complete written reports. • Address and resolve conflicts among campers, promoting a positive and inclusive atmosphere.

Non-Essential Marginal Functions:

• Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as assigned.

Education, Qualifications, and Knowledge:

• High School Diploma or equivalent education. • Two years of experience in an outdoor camp setting preferred. • Leadership experience preferred. • Enjoys working with youth ages 7-14 years. • Ability to effectively communicate directions or instructions to individuals and groups. • Ability to deal effectively with the public, children, parents, and caregivers. • Ability to learn, instruct, and implement new activities and programs. • Ability to work with special needs, behaviorally challenged children, and children with medical conditions. • Creative, imaginative, enthusiastic, resourceful, and extremely flexible.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations:

• CPR/First Aid Certified

Work Environment:

Work is performed outside. Weather conditions can be normal to extreme, hot or cold, wet or dry. Noise levels can be moderate to high. The entire camp area is smoke-free.
