Position Overview:

Join the team behind some of the most innovative, hands-on student experiences at South Dakota Mines. The CAMP Department is seeking an energetic, student-focused Coordinator who is passionate about experiential learning, collaboration, and helping student engineering teams succeed at a national level. This is a full-time, 12-month, benefited position and the employee will be physically located in-person on the South Dakota Mines campus in Rapid City, SD.

The CAMP Coordinator works collaboratively with faculty, CAMP staff, Student Development staff, and student competition teams to support the day-to-day operations and long-term success of CAMP organizations and projects. This position plays a key role in coordinating the administrative, financial, and operational needs of multiple student teams engaged in hands-on engineering design, fabrication, and national competition activities.

The CAMP Coordinator serves as a central partner for student teams by assisting with project planning, purchasing, travel coordination, and day-to-day operational support. Beyond logistics, this position provides mentorship and coaching to students, helping teams collaborate effectively, represent the university professionally, and continuously improve their performance and organizational practices.

Qualifications:

A Bachelors degree is required from an institution accredited by one of the following agencies: Higher Learning Commission (HLC), Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).

Additional minimum qualifications include:

  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience

  • Experience working and collaborating with engineers or scientists effectively, which may be demonstrated by:

  • Possession of a degree (associate degree or higher) in an engineering, science, or closely related field, or

  • Professional experience as an engineer or scientist, or

  • Professional experience in a field/organization working closely with engineers or scientists

  • Experience working with high school or college students

  • Proven ability to lead teams of people from diverse backgrounds and abilities to accomplish a goal

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive team environment where all students can feel supported and valued

  • Effective communication (oral, written, and interpersonal) skills

  • Demonstrated ability prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, meet deadlines, and follow procedures

  • Experience managing projects, to include effective organizational skills, appropriate documentation and record-keeping creation and maintenance, planning, scheduling, etc.

  • Effective computer skills, with ability to utilize standard email and electronic calendar, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, collaboration and database software

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Masters degree from an institution accredited by one of the above agencies
  • Professional higher education experience in teaching, student development, student affairs, or student support role
  • Experience designing and conducting assessment activities
  • Awareness of collegiate level student development theories, student success initiatives, or student engagement strategies
  • Familiarity with collegiate student design competitions
  • Basic accounting and budgeting experience
  • Familiarity with State of South Dakota Purchasing software and procedures
