Responsible for planning, leading, and implementing programs and experiences for children in small or large group settings to provide high quality recreational experiences; responsible for general safety and well-being of assigned participants; responsible for effective communication with camp management and parents/guardians and for accurate and complete recordkeeping.
This position will be working from late-May to August 7, with hours varying. Responsibilities include oversight of 5-11-year-old campers, ensuring they are in a safe and fun environment and all policies and procedures are being followed. A fun/outgoing personality is a must, and work will be inside and outside. This position will be scheduled for 35-40 hours a week, working various hours, Monday-Friday. Candidate should be flexible.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises and monitors safety of children assigned to the employee's care; provides basic caregiving activities.
Interacts with children throughout the day to enhance camp experience; identifies behavior problems, reports and determines appropriate course of action in cooperation with management staff.
Assists Manager/Assistant Managers and Camp Counselors in the planning and implementation of well-diversified weekly recreation activities for camp participants; organizes and leads age-appropriate activities for children assigned to the employee's care.
Communicates with parents regarding participant experiences.
Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, rule violations, and daily attendance; takes head counts and ensures all children assigned to group are accounted for at all times.
Cleans and assists with maintenance of camp facilities and resources; ensures proper use of equipment.
Maintains safety by following LSPR guidelines, policies and procedures.
Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings.
Ensures enforcement of rules and regulations of LSPR.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 17 years of age.
Basic first aid, CPR, and AED certification required prior to start date; candidates will be able to obtain required certifications through LSPR.
Successful completion of LSPR Camp Training program required prior to beginning work as Camp Counselor.
High School diploma and some college preferred.
Experience in recreation or child care preferred.
