Camp St. Croix in Hudson, WI is seeking Kitchen Assistants to support summer food service operations. This is a seasonal role ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-oriented camp environment while ensuring safe and high-quality meal service for campers and staff. This position runs from June through September, with hours varying based on operational needs.

The salary for this position starts at $15.00 hourly. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status.

  1. Job Summary:

The Camp Kitchen Assistant assists in serving healthy and nutritious meals to camp participants and groups. The incumbent maintains appropriate health standards and adequate levels of food supplies as directed by the Cook or Kitchen Manager. The incumbent sets tables, clears tables, washes dishes and performs other cleaning as directed.

  1. Essential Functions:
  • Assists in serving healthy and nutritious meals to camp participants and groups.
  • Assists in documenting and reporting when inventory quantities are low in stockroom, freezer and cooler.
  • Sets tables, clears tables, washes dishes and performs other cleaning as directed.
  • Maintains clean and safe kitchen work areas, stockroom, freezer, refrigerator, dining room, dish room and loading dock in accordance with State of Minnesota/ Wisconsin health regulations.
  • Practices personal hygiene and cleanliness in handling food.
  1. Relationships:

This position reports to the Kitchen Manager who reports to the Food Service Manager. This position may take work direction from the Cook. The incumbent interacts regularly with kitchen workers, campers, participants, volunteers, and staff.

  1. Qualifications:

Required:

  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Minimum age of 14
  • Incumbents aged 14 or 15 years old must possess a valid work permit if performing work in the state of WI.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience working in food preparation
  • Knowledge of kitchen operating procedures and food handling and storage
  1. Work Conditions:
  • Ability to lift, carry and push food carts up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires ability to safely operate all necessary kitchen equipment and cleaning supplies. (The incumbent utilizes equipment which can be potentially dangerous to include knives, ovens, meat slicers, mixers, broilers, and cleaning chemicals.)
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
