About Us
The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is anchored by its main campus in Augusta, as well as regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students in every corner of the state, and another four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. While the expansive and largely rural state of Georgia is among the top 10 states in the nation for population size and growth, it ranks low ¿ 40th in the nation ¿ in the number of physicians actively treating patients per capita. The AU/MCG-GS Savannah Partnership was created in 2023 between Augusta University and Georgia Southern University to further address physician shortages in Georgia.
The Savannah community has long been supportive of medical education. MCG Students have had clinical rotations at St. Joseph¿s/Candler Health System since 2007 and a residential campus (for third- and fourth-year students) was established there in 2011. The AU/MCG-GS Savannah Partnership is expected to seat its first freshman class of 40 students in Fall 2024. The campus will be located at the existing GS Armstrong Campus and the Health Professions Academic Building housed in Waters College of Health Professions.
