    Campus Safety Officer (CSO) FLEX

    Hope International University

    Position Information

    Organizational Relationship: Reports to the CSO Post Commander and Vice President for Student Affairs

    Position Status: Non-exempt, part-time, FLEX (approximately 8 hours to 20 hours per week)

    Position Summary: Under minimal supervision, the CSO team provides 24 hours a day protection of life, Hope International University (HIU) property and HIU faculty, staff and students' property. FLEX officers are meant to fill critical gaps in service when there are vacancies in the regular duty schedule and may work an irregular schedule.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Observe and report, criminal activity, HIU regulation violations and hazardous situations to appropriate entities.
    • Lock and unlock campus facilities. Enforce parking regulations on HIU property and monitor parking levels in HIU lots.
    • Monitor camera system.
    • Write incident reports in a clear concise manner and/or verbally brief HIU administrators.
    • After hours assume the primary contact role for all HIU issues that need to be addressed immediately and contact appropriate personnel for response.
    • Process HIU owned vehicles to authorized users with appropriate checks of safety, fuel and cleanliness.
    • Note any vehicle maintenance issues to Conference Services.
    • Work special events on campus.
    • Other duties as assigned by appropriate HIU personnel.

    • Availability: Must be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule. Shift requests may be posted with little advanced notice. Hours will vary per week depending on scheduling needs.
    • Education/Experience: Required - high school diploma or equivalent. Possess a valid Driver license. Preferred \u2013 law enforcement or military experience. Also, Christian and actively involved in a local church.
    • Knowledge and Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be self-directed and able to take initiative.
    • Mental Demands: Must be highly organized, detailed and multi-task oriented, able to prioritize responsibilities, and solve problems.
    • Visual Demands: Must be able to view computer monitor as well as perform the functions of the job.
    • Physical Demands: Bending, standing, kneeling, walking, sitting and driving cars/carts (intermittent), pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs., carrying/lifting to 50 lbs. Environment: Very busy, fast-paced, service-oriented environment. Extensive contact with faculty, students and fellow staff both in person and by phone.
    • Character: Must embody Christian character and be actively involved in a local church.
