Job Summary
Oberlin College and Conservatory is accepting applications for Campus Safety Officer. This is a full-time 40 hours continuing Campus Safety position reporting to the Assistant Director of Campus Safety. This uniformed position is non-sworn and unarmed. The position holds the internal rank of Officer.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will have the general responsibility for life and property protection on the campus of Oberlin College and Conservatory. They will also be expected to provide general and emergency public safety services.
Essential Job Functions
Conduct patrol mobile bicycle walking etc. of the campus and its facilities on an assigned duty or shift.
Provide safety and security services to specific areas as assigned.
Perform some traditional law enforcement duties typically assigned to security personnel.
Respond promptly and professionally to requests from students faculty staff and visitors for emergency and general securitysafety services.
Enforce the rules regulations and policies of Oberlin College and Conservatory applicable local ordinances along with state and federal laws necessary to maintain a peaceful and orderly academic environment.
Conduct thorough security checks of all assigned College facilities in order to ensure their integrity and the safety of the people and contents.
Promptly correct andor report to the appropriate College office all observed safety security utility environmental and fire hazards.
As assigned conduct thorough investigation and inquiry into incidents involving violation of College policy criminal offenses or suspicious circumstances submit comprehensive written reports on all such incidents.
Secure and open facilities as scheduled.
Provide periodic inspections of various safety equipment located on campus.
Stay well-informed of and promote crime prevention and fire safety.
Greet visitors to the Campus Safety Office Allen Memorial Art Museum or Conservatory of Music in a welcoming courteous and friendly manner.
Coordinate and perform all Campus Safety Office radio and telephone communications functions as necessary or as assigned on shifts.
Receive transmit and coordinate radio and telephone messages tofrom Campus Safety personnel and when necessary Facilities Operations Conference Services and other offices on the College Campus along with local law enforcement and other public safety agencies. Coordinate the Campus Safety Office response to emergencies with the staff of other College offices and with public safety agencies.
Telephone calls are to be answered in a friendly courteous and welcoming manner evaluating the callers needs and providing requested assistanceinformation or make an appropriate referral to other office staff or other College offices.
Monitor comprehensive central alarm systems fire safety burglaryrobbery detection heating ventilation and air conditioning etc. to determine conditions of system areas. Alert appropriate personnel when alarms sound or visual scans detect problems.
Maintain appropriate electronic or written log of all activities during assigned duty shift including radio telephone and general support activities.
Complete various forms associated with reported security and safety discrepancies work orders to the Facilities Operations Office lost & found property and crimes or other incidents
Make appropriate notifications to other College offices departments and staff members in the event of emergencies or incidents involving exceptional or unusual circumstances.
Fulfill requirements of a Campus Security Authority CSA as defined by the Jeanne Clery Act concerning reporting crimes to law enforcement authorities.
Perform all related safety and security services or emergencygeneral duties as requested by the Director Assistant Director Supervisor or any other senior officer.

Required Qualifications
Must be at least 19 years of age with a valid Ohio Drivers license and driving record which passes College insurability standards must be able and willing to work flexible hours and overtime coverage for extracurricular campus events which may include weekends and holidays excellent oral and written communication skills a writing sample will be required during the interview process experience demonstrating the ability to interact in a sensitive courteous and understanding way with members of a diverse residential and academic community including students faculty staff and the general public experience demonstrating the ability to handle several projects simultaneously and to maintain composure in emergency situations experience must demonstrate ability to work in a team setting to provide a safe and secure environment and favorable references.
Any offer made is contingent upon a pre-employment physical drug test and completion of a satisfactory comprehensive background.
Desired Qualifications
Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice Law Enforcement or related field. Consideration will be given for related experience andor training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation
This is a union position and will be paid at an hourly rate set forth by the existing OCSA contract and currently pays the base rate of24.86 per hour.
Total compensation includes a generous benefits package.
