Campus Safety Officer
SUMMARY
An experienced law enforcement officer is wanted to serve as a Campus Safety Officer for Spring Arbor University (SAU). The officer will help create a safe, secure, and welcoming environment on Spring Arbor University's Christ-centered campus. through routine patrols, incident response, safety training programs, and proactive community engagement. He or she will be a visible campus resource who is responsible for maintaining campus safety and working collaboratively with university departments and local emergency services to support the well-being of the university community. The officer also assists with campus emergency preparedness planning and initiatives and enforcement of university policies and procedures. The officer is expected to contribute to a campus culture built upon integrity, respect, compassion, service, and community responsibility. Full-time, exempt.

SHIFT REQUIREMENTS
Primarily assigned to third shift operations with flexibility required for special events, emergency response situations, campus programming, training exercises, and other departmental operational needs.
Other duties as assigned.
Instructional Opportunity
If credentials and experience permit, may be provided the opportunity to teach courses in the Criminal Justice program.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may assist in short-term coordination of student safety personnel or event staff as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The individual must possess strong communication, interpersonal, and crisis-management skills; the ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure; and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external emergency responders. A valid Concealed Pistol License (CPL) issued by the State of Michigan is required. Individuals from diverse populations are encouraged to apply. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, or a related field. Master's degree or higher in a Criminal Justice or related field is strongly preferred. Minimum of three years of experience in law enforcement, security operations, military service, or public safety is required. Experience in emergency preparedness is preferred, as is experience in higher education/campus security. Experience working in multi-cultural environments is preferred.
