DEFINITION:

Under limited supervision of the principal, the Campus Security Officer will support the school administration in maintaining a safe, secure, and student-centered campus to protect students, staff, and property, and perform other job related work as directed.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

This position requires the incumbent to actively and positively influence and supervise students on campus, providing monitoring and security, as appropriate, and maintaining control of the campus and its parking areas. The Campus Security will also respond to alarms and calls for assistance.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

? Patrols buildings and grounds to provide protection against vandalism, trespassing and theft;

? perform a variety of preliminary investigative and protective duties, and prepare and maintain a variety of records, and reports, as it relates to student behavior

? works with administration to conduct investigations into disciplinary situations and criminal acts occurring on district property as it relates to student behavior;

? prepares written incident reports;

? intervenes in situations as needed;

? may work with other security and law enforcement personnel as needed;

? on occasion may be required to report to other district sites to assist with security

? communicates standards of behavior and takes disciplinary measures to enforce them;

? may train staff on the campus or throughout the district;

? maintains and actively supports standards of personal conduct and discipline policy for students of the school and/or district;

? maintains orderly control of large crowds and enforces safety regulations at special events;

? performs other job related duties as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

? Demonstrate knowledge of legal mandates, education code regulations and school policy relating to student discipline and investigations;

Ability to:

? Meet the physical, mental and environmental demands of the position;

? Use crowd control procedures and behavior modification strategies;

? Identify and properly handle suspicious substances which may be drugs, and identify common indications of intoxication;

? Identify and properly handle and secure weapons;

? Use sound judgment in stressful situations;

? Work effectively with students in a multi-ethnic setting;

? Understand and follow oral and written instructions;

? Work with minimum supervision;

? Ability to deal with problems firmly and daily as soon as they arise;

? Perform tasks in a safe and efficient manner so as not to cause risk to the health and safety of self and others.

Education, Training, and Experience:

? Graduation from the twelfth grade or equivalent;

? Past experience in working with security and/or youth groups is highly desired;

? Bilingual highly desired.

Licenses and Certifications:

? Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is required;

? Clean driving record with the DMV;

? Must provide proof of current SB1626 Campus Security Safety training certification; OR complete training before the end of the probationary period;

? CPR/First Aid certification;

? Insurability by District liability insurance carrier is required.
