Position Title: Campus Security Officer (PRN) Department: Campus Safety & Security Reports To: Campus Security Supervisor / Director of Campus Safety & Security Institution: William Jewell College Classification: Part-Time, PRN (Non-Benefits Eligible) Position SummaryThe Campus Security Officer (PRN) provides supplemental staffing to support the Campus Safety & Security Department. This position performs the same essential public safety functions as full-time Campus Security Officers while working on an as-needed basis to provide coverage for vacations, training, extended leave, special events, and other operational needs. PRN Officers are expected to maintain the same professional standards, training, judgment, and customer service expectations as all sworn members of the department. Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Perform all essential duties and responsibilities of the Campus Security Officer position.
- Provide coverage for scheduled and unscheduled staffing shortages, vacations, PTO, training, and special events.
- Conduct proactive foot and vehicle patrols of campus buildings, residence halls, parking lots, and surrounding property.
- Respond to calls for service, alarms, emergencies, and requests for assistance.
- Prepare accurate, timely, and complete reports.
- Enforce College policies utilizing communication, professionalism, and de-escalation techniques.
- Coordinate with local public safety agencies during emergency incidents.
- Maintain proficiency with department-issued equipment and complete all required annual firearms qualifications and mandatory training.
- Represent William Jewell College and the Campus Safety & Security Department in a professional manner.
- Conduct routine inspections of assigned facilities and report deficiencies involving physical security, fire protection, life safety equipment, and other safety hazards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of five (5) years of sworn law enforcement or full-time campus public safety experience required.
- Ability to lawfully possess and carry a firearm while performing assigned duties.
- Valid Missouri driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to successfully complete required annual firearms qualifications, CPR/AED, First Aid, and other departmental training.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operational needs require.
Preferred Qualifications- Current or previously held Missouri POST certification.
- Experience in higher education, campus safety, or community-oriented policing.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Position DetailsEmployment Type: Part-Time PRN Work Schedule: As needed to support departmental operations, including coverage for vacancies, PTO, training, special events, and emergencies. Day and night assignments available. Assignment: Non-benefits eligible. Must maintain all required certifications, training, and firearms qualification standards to remain eligible for assignment.
