CAPAA Musical Theatre Instructor - Dance

This position is the key instruction role for the Musical Theatre track at Oldham County's Creative And Performing Arts Academy. The class includes an exploration of dance techniques including Ballet, Tap and Jazz repertoire from the Musical Theatre genre. The teacher will teach group pieces and teach the musical theatre dance curriculum. Candidates must have strong executive functioning skills, excellent classroom management, experience with high school students, and must have the ability to teach all levels of musical theatre dance, jazz, and tap as well as period styles, ballet, partnering, and Broadway rep. Faculty who will be most successful at CAPAA are individuals who are dedicated to student success. Responsibilities

Classroom and professional duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Embrace and promote the CAPAA vision, mission, educational approach, goals, and core values.

  • Support students during studio time, daily lessons, classroom setup, and masterclasses.

  • Support students in documenting their portfolio work so they have digital files for college submissions, competition submission, etc.

  • Structure lessons that encourage and foster skill development, critical thinking, applications, and ethics.

  • Instruct conservatory level courses, serving students with various learning styles, abilities and needs.

  • Employ classroom management skills and implement the school code of conduct.

  • Assist in assessing student achievement, skill mastery and career development skills.

  • Work with faculty and department heads to ensure student's overall success at CAPAA.

  • Other responsibilities include attending department and faculty meetings, parent conferences and open houses; regular communication with parents and administrators; and occasional supervisory duties.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree

Demonstrated professional specialization in Musical Theatre, Jazz, Tap and Ballet

Prior experience teaching high school students is strongly preferred.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Excellent interpersonal skills

Excellent curriculum development skills

Excellent classroom management ability

Experience teaching in a wide variety of styles, including classical, jazz, popular, and contemporary and Golden Age musical theatre
