Summary
Campus Activities Programming Board (CAPB) is a student-led program that creates events "for students, by students" across the University of Missouri campus. Their programming defines the student experience by bringing timeless traditions to life and inviting new, exciting opportunities to showcase to our students. From Welcome Week to Mizzou-A-Palooza, CAPB is where students can find friends, discover new ideas, and learn campus traditions. CAPB strives to facilitate environments where students can feel comfortable enough to meet new people and find a sense of belonging at Mizzou. As a CAPB employee, you will find yourself among a team of student leaders who enjoy building community, creating transformative student experiences, and bringing fun to the campus community.
Many of our signature events include Midnight BBQ, Illumination on the Quad, and Mizzou-A-Palooza.
As a CAPB Event Staff member, you are a key component in curating experiences for the Mizzou student body by helping bring innovative programming to campus and shaping traditions at the University of Missouri. In this role, you support the campus community by bringing student interests to life while building meaningful connections and developing skills that extend beyond your time at Mizzou.
The ideal CAPB Event Staff member approaches all aspects of event support-from posting signage to setting up and breaking down events-with enthusiasm and a can-do spirit. Whether checking students in, managing event stations, or welcoming attendees, your positive attitude is essential to success. CAPB Event Staff are expected to attend fall training and Welcome Week events (dates provided), as well as work evenings and weekends throughout the year as events require.
Essential Functions
- Support the management and execution of all CAPB events, including Signature events and those held throughout the academic year. Scheduling details will be provided.
- Greet guests upon arrival and deliver positive, professional customer service to all event attendees.
- Maintain event integrity by serving as a supportive presence, addressing issues as they arise, and seeking additional support when needed.
- Arrive by the designated event call time and assist with setup and breakdown of event spaces. Maintain working knowledge of event equipment, including but not limited to projectors, microphones, amplifiers, temperature controls, dance floors (setup, breakdown, and cleaning), and telephone hookups.
- Perform general upkeep of event spaces, including trash removal and light custodial duties such as wiping down areas and equipment as needed.
- Manage event stations such as food, craft, and novelty areas.
- Provide support for pre-event activities, including placing sandwich boards, setting up decorations, preparing spaces, and assisting with craft building.
- Uphold CAPB standards and actively promote the success of all CAPB events.
Additional Responsibilities
- Educate, recruit, and inform prospective CAPB members using positive language and highlighting the skills gained through involvement.
- Maintain awareness of campus climate, student interests, and the campus calendar to better serve the community.
- Perform physical tasks associated with event work, including lifting and transporting materials, loading and unloading carts, setting up and tearing down tables and chairs in the MU Student Center, and standing for extended periods.
- Demonstrate basic computer proficiency, including the use of Google Workspace and Microsoft applications, along with a foundational understanding of MU Engage.

All CAPB staff are expected at the following dates/listed meetings.
- Fall Training: Early August 2026 (via Zoom)
- 1st Come 1st Served: August 19, 2026
- First Roar: August 20, 2026
- Midnight BBQ: August 21, 2026
- Flick on the Field: August 22, 2026
- Shakespeare's Pizza Party: August 23, 2026
- Illumination on the Quad: October 23, 2026
- Truman's International Roar: November 10, 2026
- Spring Carnival: April 15, 2027
- All-Staff Meeting (Mandatory): Last Wednesday of each month
Anticipated Hiring Range
$15.25 per hour, paid on a bi-weekly basis.
Shift
- Event Staff typically work 3-10 hours per week, depending on the volume of events during the month and the availability of shifts.
- You will have the opportunity to work events as shown in the worker docs sent out at the beginning of each month through a signup process. Your schedule is dictated by you and what works best for you, unless otherwise stated by pro staff/mandatory events.
- This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible for a student title, an individual must be enrolled at the University of Missouri. Enrollment in the summer session is not required if the student was enrolled in the Spring semester and is pre-enrolled for the Fall semester. Selection is contingent upon results of a review with the Office of Institutional Equity, Office of Student Accountability & Support, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, previous MU appointment history, and reference checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Have a cumulative 2.75 GPA.
- Previous experience working with or serving on the Campus Activities Programming Board.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals.
- Enthusiasm for Campus Activities, programming, and event promotion.
- A passion for creating authentic, high-quality events that shape the student experience and define what it means to be a student at the University of Missouri.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
