Summary

Campus Activities Programming Board (CAPB) is a student-led program that creates events "for students, by students" across the University of Missouri campus. Their programming defines the student experience by bringing timeless traditions to life and inviting new, exciting opportunities to showcase to our students. From Welcome Week to Mizzou-A-Palooza, CAPB is where students can find friends, discover new ideas, and learn campus traditions. CAPB strives to facilitate environments where students can feel comfortable enough to meet new people and find a sense of belonging at Mizzou. As a CAPB employee, you will find yourself among a team of student leaders who enjoy building community, creating transformative student experiences, and bringing fun to the campus community.

Many of our signature events include Midnight BBQ, Illumination on the Quad, and Mizzou-A-Palooza.

As a CAPB Marketing Assistant, you will work directly with one of CAPB's four major committees to curate its online presence through innovative marketing materials. From initial concept development to design and outreach, you will play a dedicated role in showcasing CAPB to the campus community.

The ideal CAPB Marketing Assistant approaches all aspects of student outreach-from social media management to event photography-with enthusiasm and a can-do spirit. Whether coordinating with other organizations, supporting live engagement, or designing new and engaging content, your upbeat attitude will be key to success. CAPB Marketing Assistants are expected to attend fall training and Welcome Week events (dates provided), as well as work evenings and weekends throughout the year as events require.

Essential Functions

  • Research, plan, and execute marketing strategies, including social and visual media, to increase event attendance.
  • Host 4 office hours per week between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; hours may be scheduled flexibly.
  • Track and analyze data related to social media engagement and outreach.
  • Maintain and monitor CAPB's social media presence, including engagement with posts and event listings.
  • Promote CAPB to organizations across campus.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and other Marketing Assistants to evaluate past events and inform future success.
  • Support the creation of Engage event tools to track attendance, engagement, and marketing effectiveness.
  • Develop and monitor marketing goals, such as maintaining a content calendar.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Educate, recruit, and inform prospective CAPB members using positive language and highlighting the skills gained through involvement.
  • Maintain awareness of campus climate, student interests, and the campus calendar to better serve the community.
  • Perform physical tasks associated with event setup and execution, including lifting and transporting materials, loading and unloading carts, setting up and tearing down tables and chairs in the MU Student Center, and standing for extended periods.
  • Demonstrate basic computer proficiency, including the use of Google Workspace and Canva, along with a foundational understanding of MU Engage.

Required Attendance and Participation

All CAPB staff are expected at the following dates/listed meetings.

Shift

  • You will also be expected to attend events throughout the semester to take photos, support promotional efforts, and assist with event execution.
  • Additional event shifts are available through a monthly signup process outlined in worker documents shared at the beginning of each month. Your schedule is largely self-directed and based on your availability, unless otherwise specified by professional staff or for mandatory events.
  • This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.
