The Carbon Engineer will apply engineering principles, process knowledge, and carbon accounting methodologies to quantify greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, identify and evaluate emission-reduction opportunities, and support the execution of carbon-reduction projects across FPC USA manufacturing operations. This role serves as a technical bridge between corporate sustainability strategy, site-level engineering teams, and external reporting frameworks.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
- Maintain and improve FPC USAs corporate and site-level GHG inventory, including Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, and support Scope 3 screening and engagement activities as directed.
- Apply engineering analysis to identify, evaluate, and prioritize carbon-reduction opportunities related to energy efficiency, process optimization, fuel switching, electrification, and emerging low-carbon technologies.
- Support the development and tracking of carbon-intensity metrics, targets, and progress dashboards aligned with FPC USAs 2030 and 2050 goals.
- Provide technical input to capital projects, process changes, and operational initiatives to ensure carbon impacts are quantified and considered in decision-making.
- Collaborate with site engineering, operations, maintenance, and EHS teams to implement and verify carbon-reduction projects.
- Support external sustainability reporting, customer inquiries, and third-party assessments related to carbon and climate performance.
- Monitor evolving regulatory, market, and voluntary carbon frameworks and assess implications for FPC USA.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering preferred, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 5 years of experience in carbon management, energy management, process engineering, sustainability engineering, or a related technical role within manufacturing, chemicals, refining, or energy-intensive industries.
- Practical experience with GHG accounting, energy balance calculations, or process optimization is required.
- Working knowledge of GHG accounting methodologies, e.g., Scope 1 and 2 calculations, emission factors, carbon intensity metrics.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to translate technical findings for non-technical audiences.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Requirement to travel means you must have a valid drivers license and be prepared to drive a motor vehicle and fly with an overnight stay required. Travel 20%.
- Training or familiarity with carbon reporting standards, e.g., GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, or similar is desirable.
