Job Title: Cardiac Cath Lab Tech II

Position Summary

The Cardiac Cath Lab Tech II provides advanced technical and clinical support during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization, peripheral vascular, structural heart, and electrophysiology procedures. The technologist demonstrates strong clinical knowledge of cardiovascular physiology, ECG interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring, and interventional equipment while ensuring patient safety and procedural efficiency.

This role requires a highly skilled scrub technologist capable of working independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary cardiac team.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Procedural Duties

  • Assist physicians during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization and EP procedures.
  • Scrub and monitor all heart cath, peripheral vascular, structural heart, and electrophysiology procedures.
  • Set up sterile fields and prepare necessary supplies and equipment for procedures.
  • Monitor patient status throughout procedures, recognizing and responding to hemodynamic or ECG abnormalities.
  • Interpret ECG waveforms, lethal arrhythmias, and myocardial infarction patterns.
  • Calculate and document hemodynamic data using cath lab recording systems.
  • Identify coronary anatomy and cardiac pressure waveforms.
  • Perform cardiac outputs, oxygen saturation measurements, and ACT testing.
  • Assist with device utilization including:
    • PTCA and atherectomy procedures
    • AngioJet, Rotablator, and laser revascularization systems
    • Intravascular ultrasound and Doppler technologies
  • Support electrophysiology procedures, pacemaker implants, ablations, and ICD placements.
  • Administer and document cardiac medications per protocol.
  • Recognize abnormal laboratory values and communicate findings to physicians.
  • Perform ACLS interventions during cardiac emergencies when required.

Operational & Team Responsibilities

  • Assist with orientation and training of new Cath Lab staff.
  • Participate in departmental initiatives, committees, and special projects.
  • Maintain accurate procedural documentation using Merge Hemo or similar systems.
  • Adhere to medical ethics, hospital policies, and infection control standards.
  • Promote excellent patient care and customer service practices.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary cardiac team environment.

Schedule

  • Shift: Full-time weekdays, 6:30 AM 5:00 PM
  • One variable weekday off per week
  • On-Call Requirements:
    • 1 weekend per month (Friday 5 PM Monday 6:30 AM)
    • 4 weeknight calls per month (5 PM 6:30 AM)
  • No weekend commitment outside scheduled on-call.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Allied Health program such as:
    • Cardiovascular Technology
    • Radiologic Technology
    • Respiratory Therapy
    • Exercise Science
    • Cardiac/Vascular Sonography or equivalent experience.

Certifications

  • RCIS, RCES, OR
  • ARRT (CI or VI preferred) with cath lab scrub experience.
  • BLS (AHA) Required
  • ACLS Required (within 6 months if not current)

Experience

  • Minimum 1 2 years Cath Lab or EP Lab experience required.
  • Must have strong scrub experience across interventional procedures.
  • Experience with Merge Hemo documentation system preferred.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced ECG interpretation and arrhythmia recognition.
  • Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
  • Ability to work in a sterile procedural environment.
  • Comfortable wearing lead aprons for extended periods.
  • Ability to assist with patient transfers and equipment movement.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills.
  • Self-directed, flexible, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

  • Ability to scrub for prolonged procedures.
  • Wear radiation protection equipment for extended durations.
  • Assist with lifting, positioning, and transporting patients with team assistance.
