Cardiac Sonographer

Monday-Friday 9a-5p (including 30 minutes unpaid lunch break). 17 wk assignment.

NON-INVASIVE CARDIOLOGY

Operates and maintains echocardiogram equipment
Inspects echocardiogram machine electrodes etc. to insure cleanliness and proper working order reports malfunctions to Supervisor and Assistant immediately.
Insures machine and cart contain adequate supplies to complete assigned tasks reports low par levels to Supervisor or Assistant.
Responds to STATS within 15 minutes.

Obtains echocardiograms as ordered
Schedules patients in appropriate order.
Matches patient I.D. to request.
Explains procedures to patient to assure understanding cooperation and optimum test results.
Position patient. Select appropriate transducer with consideration of depth of field organ to be identified etc.
Use scanner over specified body area adjusting equipment to focus.
Make video copy images as requested.
Document test.
If necessary reschedule testing due to difficulties re pleural-evac. tube or respirator.
Develop print using automatic printer processing equipment.
Prepare data and files request and keep finished tape on machine until complete study is read by cardiologist.
Review test results with physician.
Log all echocardiograms performed on floor.

Work with professional staff in procedures i.e. pericardiocentesis.
Assistance required may be to scan patient mark patients body maintain sterile technique.

Maintains hospital standards.
Knows and understands policies procedures objectives quality assurance safety environmental and infection control.
Reports to supervisor any violations of the above immediately.

Performs various clerical tasks within Non-Invasive Cardiology department as needed.
Assists in cross-training of other departmental staff.
Maintains department records reports and files and pulls reports requested.
Answers phones and relays information responds to requests of caller or directs appropriately

Develops and maintains a high level customer service
Displays courtesy tact and diplomacy when dealing with staff colleagues superiors patients hospital visitors vendors representatives of other institutions and government and regulatory agencies.
Offers to assist those mentioned in "a" in attaining their goals or completing their tasks whenever possible or if unable obtains appropriate assistance.

Must be able to identify problems with equipment and resolve or report must recognize patient problems and need to call in clinical assistance MD or RN.

Routine repetitive functions governed by detailed rules or clearly defined procedures limited or no judgment required.

Slightly varied functions some judgment required in selecting applicable rules or procedures precedent is clearly defined.

Supervised on a daily basis little or no independent action is permitted.

Improper performance could result in erroneous results leading to diminished patient care negative public relations lost time and possible legal action.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Work Experience
Must have working knowledge of all echocardiogram equipment procedures and supplies gained through completion of the above-mentioned training course plus 2 years experience as a Technician I basic clerical skills such as filing and light typing at 25 wpm. Required
Human relations skills Required for dealings with patients and families. Required
Good oral communication skills to explain procedures and positioning requirements with patients and family members and to discuss results or problems with clinical staff must be organized to insure proper stocking of equipment and supplies prior to beginning assignments.
