Overview: Under supervision, to perform standard and complex adult, pediatric and neonatal echocardiographic studies working collaboratively with the cardiologist to achieve optimal cardiac imaging. Performs contrast sonography studies, and plain and pharmacologic stress echocardiograms. Assists physicians with the performance of Transesophageal Echoes (TEE's). May assist in performance of non-invasive cardiac testing. Provides oversight to non-registered sonographers. Responsibilities: PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions)
  1. Acquires images in accordance with standards for the industry.
  2. Prepares and downloads images into Philips Xcelera PAC's as soon as possible after study for timely reading by the cardiologist.
  3. Collaborates with ordering physicians regarding the need for echo and the urgency for study completion.
  4. Works directly with reading physicians to assure images acquired are comprehensive, quality is acceptable, and solicits feedback for improvement.
  5. Performs EKGs, and in the application of Arrhythmia Monitors and Holters.
  6. Transmits pediatric images to affiliated credentialed pediatric cardiologist for review.
  7. Collaborates with cardiologist directly soliciting feedback while acquiring images as necessary to perform complex testing.
Qualifications: JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements)

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Participates in continuing education programs and department meetings.
  • Knowledgeable of and follows operational policies and procedures related to patient care and safety.
  • Demonstrates ability to navigate document competently in EPIC and Xcelera computer systems.
  • Competent to perform tests utilizing equipment unique to testing such as Philips ultrasound, GE 12 lead ECG carts, etc.
  • Reports to appropriate persons malfunctioning equipment and removes from service.
  • Ability to assess and interpret data about patient status in order to identify patient age specific needs.
  • Provides compassion, kindness and a caring approach in patient interaction.
  • Works independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Demonstrates is a collaborative member of patient care team.
  • Demonstrates clinical competency in patient care.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • General knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate service to all age groups served by the Cardiac EDX department.
  • Successful completion of 12-lead certification classes offered at Methodist within 3 months of hire.
  • Successful completion of required clinical competencies for assigned area within 6 months of hire.
  • Registered and current with Cardiovascular Credentialing (RCS) or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent General Studies Required
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible echocardiography work experience.
  • 2 Healthcare/Medical - Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Required
